Shouldering the Burdensome Load

Updated on May 3, 2017

Why must the few to shoulder all of the load

so taking all of the majorities responsibilities

While the many flounder in their own wastes

perpetuating their evident inconsistencies?

While in this world of uncertainty, its demands

The weak of society gather in their own bands

As if the walking dead in their footsteps appear

Blank their expressions, all actions not sincere.

Should it take a new and regal personage

Theirs of a sovereignty, even royal vestige

One to relight the dimming flames of time

That provides life's reason, for it to rhyme?

When the timid do hide each a trembling face

The strong and fearless leader all to embrace

Taking great weights upon their brawny backs

Lighting up the dark, with imprints of their tracks.

Could we not just take a look within our own heart

There to reveal a true source of strength, all a part

Then a discovering of the powers, of an individuality

There to find at last a sense of hope to set us free?

For hope, the sense we have, when our future's bright,

A vibrant and shining star in the dead of darkest night

As we search within ourselves, denying other sources

Listening to our hearts to beat, as our own inner voices.

While the message and form of the entire poem is commendable, your last two verses are my favorite. They touch me like the appeal after a sermon.
