Shoveling In The Dark

Updated on June 18, 2013

Let Creativity Flow

The winter is here and with it comes all that wet white stuff

As the sky opens up and drops

What else but snowy flakes in every spot

So many people curse and shake their heads and mumble not again

I watch and wait and let the puffy white powder paint a new picture

It changes every scene right before my eyes

Highlighting everything white

I am amazed because I have never seen a highlighter so bright

Many times i drag my feet through and then stomp or kick

As if everything I touch is brand new

I am the first one to see it and get happier by the minute

I can hear the snow blowers blowing the snow in a distance

Then the plow comes with its big blade and scrapes the ground to close

The trees branches bend with the wieght

The wind causes beautiful drifts that reach up to the sky

I can hear children chasing each other to and fro

Even my next door neighbors dog walks in to deep

Barking as if to tell the snow to back off and leave my paws alone

The day turns dark

This is when I take all my energy and power

To lift up a shovel and begin

Picking any old place

I can feel the snow being pushed against the shovel

Lifting it up high over my head and tossing it whereever I please

My eyes can't see the wonderful wall of white

It seems imaginary until I drop it too low and feel it come back in my face

Each time I shovel I clear a mystery path

I go one way then another

I can see street lights in a distance

No animals to be found

As I make my way through one pile than another

I begin to hum as I feel a chill in the crisp fresh air

Yes I created my own fun

No need to stop

One day I will master the art of shoveling in the dark

KoffeeKlatch Gals The snow is so much fun to watch.Especially with a nice hot chocolate covered with marshmallows or whipped cream.I love to look at the snow from many angles this makes a little snow go along way. This also takes alot of snow and spreads it out so I can only see a little at a time.Thanx for reading.

DREAM ON...I kind of envy you guys with the fresh clean white snow hitting your face in the moonlight, steamy breathe leaving your body, bundled in layers, listening to the silence of the night..lifting the snow as it gets heavier with each stroke, fingers and feet numbing and just as you are finished and you are beaming..ALONG comes the snow plow and a wall of even heavier snow now blocks your driveway....nah..forget the envy..but I will sit here poolside in the sun and give thought to your guys once in awhile..hehe..only 5 months and it will be gone..enjoy your week-ends and that cozy fireside cocoa/brandy..whatever..I'm still here..

lol Nothing like shoveling the white stuff. We have plenty here and my hubby has found a better method to all the madness. Before the snow packs down he takes the big snow shovel and pushes it along. The snow parts and before long he has a nice path running through the garden.

I give you credit for attempting to shovel in the dark. I do enjoy the snow as a Minnesotan, unless I have to shovel or drive in it. I

shiningirisheyes (lol) There has been many times I have said the same things as you.But I realized it didn't make any less snow and I think it made the snow come down even harder.I even thought it was heavier when I complained my aching back. Now I just accept it and find a way to make me smile in some unusual way.Life is about making it fun and sometimes we have to invent new ideas that scream happiness.

You are absolutely right my friend. For example, although I will be facing more days of shoveling, I do enjoy seeing those days get longer with the sun hanging out for a bit more.

Great attitude. The world needs more of you.

shiningirisheyes Think of all the exercise you got without going to the gym.It is all how you look at it.Pretend you have never seen snow before what would your reaction be ?When you get tired of shoveling pretend again this is the last snowfall you'll ever see. Then when that doesn't work any more ask me and I will give you other ways to enjoy and see life covered in white.Soon it will be gone and the spring will be here thats when you can really cheer.Have a good afternoon and if we wait long enough maybe it will just melt.

LOL! Only you could find the enjoyment in this white stuff. I have about had my fill and so has my back.

I only wish I could stir up my inner enthusiasm but I feel I have been shoveling in the dark, in the light, in the evening, in the morning, at lunch time.........
