Shy man at the dance.....poem

Updated on April 26, 2014

"Do you mind if I sit here"? he asks to
the older couple at the dance
She smiles and says sure as the music
begins they take their chance

But he sits there for the whole evening
smiling at the music and the ladies too
The nice lady asks him later to dance out of politeness
he says "I don't know how but it's true"

They talk a little when it's quiet but he just
sips his beer and muses
At the couples and their movements
dreading of all excuses

This is how its always been to shy to ask
and to deft to learn
But he dreams of the ladies in skirts
as the evening begins to turn

He imagines himself with each at different times
as they throw their heads back and smile
And later as he leaves the dance he dreams
of lovers and of a lovers style

If only I'd learned to dance the nights would
be filled with love and the day time too
If only I'd learned to dance You still be with me and
he wouldn't be with you

Very nice . I can dance, but badly..lol. I can relate to him though. I know how appealing women find a man who can dance. Dance also seems to be a theme on HP at the moment. This is the third hub I have read today with 'dance' as the topic.

It's sad but true that people pass someone up or actually leave each other over something so minor. I know of one woman who left her prosperous husband because she fell in love with a worthless guy who was, as she put it, 'a great dancer'. It didn't take long to regret that foolish decision, but by then, her husband did not want her back.

This made me sad. I hope he learns to dance. This is beautiful! Love it..
