Sinking - A Love Poem

Updated on March 20, 2014

The taste of these tears

Salty, as they race

Falling down our cheeks

We are face to face

Everyone has doubts

As the end draws near

But we are sinking, baby

From this atmosphere

This home just empty space

A place once so alive

Now the walls are closing

We barely even thrive

You and I are ghosts

Invisible it seems

Whatever happened, baby?

To chasing all our dreams

We’ve become broken

Cowards, to our fears

Too much time wasted

Disposing all those years

We could’ve tried harder

Although easier to blame

Passing the buck,

Such a pointless game

What about the promise?

To love, and stick things out

Fight the good fight, baby

Is what I’m talking about

It took so long to realize

Tasting all these tears

I want to stay in neutral

Tired of switching gears

I never want us to part

Can we start our lives anew?

Just stay a little longer

To do what we need to do

Even through hard times

How deeply we did care

Just too ignorant to show

All the signs were there

Whatever you decide

What is to be, must be

But I want you to know

I love you, endlessly

Thank you acaetnna, I am really glad that you enjoyed this poem :) And this isn't reality in my life right now, but something I can definitely relate to from my past.

This is beautifully written and telling a sad story. I am pleased it is not reality in your life at the moment.

Thank you Astra Nomik! I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem and its meaning. It is true, when you love somebody, and they mean everything to you, they are worth fighting for. And as we all know, love can be painful at times, but if we dig deeper into how we truly feel and try harder, it can really make a difference. Thanks for becoming a fan, I appreciate it! :)

Oh I am so glad I saw this poem today, so sad but so sweet and with affection in it too. I like that there is the feeling still between the two even showing through at the end of this. Love is worth fighting for. I like the way you write poetry, it is really natural and there is an honesty in it that is beautiful, and I voted up too. I am a fan now, thank you. :)

Thank you always exploring for taking the time to read my poems! I really do appreciate it. This poem isn't about what's going on in my life right now (thank goodness), but a combination of past relationships, and what I've seen others go through. Thanks again for reading :)

Wow, Beautiful. If it's autobiographical, i hope he stays.
