Smiles That Hide Our Pain
"Sometimes you have to smile, when you are about to cry. Laugh to hide the pain. Look up to the heavens and pray, something good is on its way." (Unknown Author)
The Masks We Wear
The Performance Is Convincing
She puts on a smile
All the while she prays
That no one envies her smile
For it has taken a lot of tears to wear
Although those tears have dried,
The silence breaks the heart inside
Still, she gets all pretty and shows her face
Trying to hide it for a little while
Through betrayal, lost trust results
Behind the Masks ...
Though her smile remains
She prays that no one envies her love,
For it has taken a lot of pain to grow it
Envy not, her life, for she has gone through much
To appreciate it
She smiles that smile, the ultimate guide into her soul
Hiding truth and behind the eyes, where it is revealed
What is hidden behind the surface
Not once faltering, that smile she wears, even after a tear silently falls
There is only One who knows her pain and keeps her each and every tear
When the Mask Is Removed ...
Achieving True Happiness, Is It Possible?
According to Behavioral Health Systems, the following are very interesting facts and myths on achieving true happiness in one's life.
Happy people suppress negative emotions.
Believe it or not, happy people experience sad or negative thoughts and feelings nearly as often as unhappy people do. However, there is a big difference as to those happier people, in that they are able to experience their feelings without losing hope for the future. That is the key difference here between the happy and unhappy, for those who seem to remain unhappy, really see no hope for the future. On the other hand, happy people do allow themselves (or give themselves permission) to feel sad or angry, but remain optimistic that things will get better.
Pursuing happiness is self-centered.
One's happiness is determined more by one's relationships with other people than by any other single factor (emphasis added). Now, that is truly an interesting fact! The key here, again, is that the happiest people build their lives around solid, trusting relationships, coupled with the fact that when other priorities get in the way, the happy people are sure to take those steps to shift the balance. This is very wise to note here, as to achieving one's happiness in this life.
I'll be happy when I achieve my goals.
When it comes to this particular fact, and that fact being, most of the happiness we get from striving for goals comes from the progress we make toward attaining them, not after we achieve them (emphasis added). That is why it is important to choose goals that are in synch with our values and that we make a conscious effort to enjoy them along the way. Although, once our goals are achieved, it is most satisfying.
If I were suddenly rich, beautiful and living on the beach somewhere, I would be happy.
This fact may be contradictory to what most people believe, for it is that the happiest people are most often not those in the most enviable circumstances (emphasis added), but those who develop positive outlooks and actions. It is most important in taking those concrete steps to practice optimism, gratitude and kindness in your everyday life.
How many of the above-referenced myths about achieving happiness have you ever believed to be true or still believe to be true?
Watching a Sunset ...
* You are not supposed to be perfect.
* Right now is a fresh start.
* There are reasons to smile all around.
* No matter what, you have a purpose.
* Tough times help us grow.
* We are all in this together.
* It is okay to let some things go.
* You do not always have to be happy.
In that last "Fact" stated above, as relates to achieving happiness, I am reminded of those persons who have gone on mission trips around the world to the most impoverished of places, and find that those with little or literally nothing, especially, the children find happiness in the smallest of things each day and are so appreciative and thankful for each and every little bit they receive. One's outlook on life changes without a doubt when one does go on a mission trip to such places around the globe. One is forever changed.
