So Much More Than I Bargained For

Updated on August 26, 2014

Filled With So Many Surprises

Where do I begin

There is no real beginning or end

Every day we learn something new

We remember some things and forget others

If we are smart we will keep watching as life unfolds

Like an umbrella in a heavy rain

Good for many uses

Until one day

The wind lifts it's ugly head

Soon your fearless umbrella that has weathered many storms

Finds this one no match

Quickly turned inside out by heavy winds

It becomes helpless and tattered and torn

Useless pieces that once worked in great harmony

Now just a pile of odd pieces unable to be fixed

Every time we gain a little knowledge

We also lose something in return

A strange kind of give and take

One that will peek my curiosity and tease me till the end of my days

When I think things are going smooth

It only happens for a short time and then the strangest thing happens

My life gets turned upside down for no apparent reason

Then it is as if I started all over again

When I explain it to other people

I get welcome to my world

So as I keep an ear on the future

Squint to see my past

Feel my heart beating in the present

I savor the flavor of life's richest moments on my tongue

Finally smell the sweet smells of all that is beautiful and well

I wonder if you and me are much a like

Shuffling your way through life

Gypsy Rose Lee I can picture all the ladies watching him. I love the way you think. Luckily umbrella's are cheap. I can continue through the rough days to make it to all sunshine. Thanks so much.

Voted up and awesome. Such lovely sentiments. The words are so full of emotion I could imagine Elvis singing this in his soft voice while strumming a guitar. Passing this on and pearling.

Yes Dream On, I think we are very much alike. I feel the same as you have just described. Life often gets turned upside down by some unexpected event, and yes, I think every time we gain something we do tend to lose something else or have to give it up to take advantage of the new. I enjoyed reading this. Voted up.
