Soldier Blue is a hero ?.....Poem

Updated on April 13, 2014

You rode in under the stars and bars
gallant in that well oiled saddle
I wonder though .....it wasn't you
who oiled and polished the leather that you straddle

Behind you the "hero's" of the day scheming and
dreaming of the spoils of the war
How much more could they do
rape and pillage all the more

And you the father too of a native
and furunate son
Ahh ......another hero to bow down to
you're not the only one

Who is the hero of the day, you ? the boy's
who follow blindly swinging swords
Or the native women and children you slaughtered
in the gallant indian wars

You the hero as you bend naked to the waist
spreading the legs of the "squaw"
Yet now the truth comes out
it all leaves something stuck in the craw

Maybe it was fate alone that left you
there lying on the hills of little big horn
Revenge is a double edged sword
when will we ever learn

Image but a mirage set forth by the
short sighted eyes of all men
Hero's but another misty fog of war
and here we go again

Hi Cardisa ! I have missed your smily face , Yes , I often wonder about Karma myself , we can only hope ! I, on the other hand ,also wonder and think seriously about revenge . Is there a fine line? , can man control Karma ? We know revenge is within his reach ! Much much happy wishes for you this year !....Ed

A good poem. Stirring, dark, realistic, fair, morose. Exactly everything it should be. Hope all is well. Theresa

Custer was no hero as you said. Greed for the land led this massacre just as it is today. Will we ever learn? I don't think so, but i hope so. Beautiful poetry...

There is a saying that "what goes around comes around", Karma is a bitch. I believe in Karma and sometimes when bad things happen to people it's because they did something aweful to others.

      Wonderful poem, as usual.
