Soldier of Mine

Updated on January 12, 2012

Soldier of Mine

This poem was written when a close friend of mine shared her feelings regarding her oldest sons enlistment in the military. His mother confided in me that her fear for their son far outweighed the duty to his country. However parents should respect their child's choices in life.

SOLDIER OF MINE

Why oh why do good men die young? Freedom comes at such a price.

Lives lost before their time. Boys die before they’re men.

Fighting fearlessly for our rights -oh why does Freedom come at such a price.

So let’s not forget those proud, lost souls who gave it all for our freedom to unfold.

His youthful sacrifice set us free and allows us our liberty.
