Some Poems To Ponder

Updated on February 17, 2014

A Haiku - Children

Tolerated? Shucks!

Welcomed, guided, loved. Forgive!

Children after all!

Like a garden, too.

Given time to grow, nurtured,

Weeded too, at times.

Adults will appear,

Fully formed with richness, too.

Proud "guard-ner" parents.

A Haiku - Discipline

I told you often.

What I showed you, you saw.

Why no follow through?

Rules and punishments

Some easy, some soon observed,

At times understood.

Military rote,

Childhood survivors all grown,

Trying their own forms.

Self-discipline? Tough.

Learned with so much cost and pain.

Now its own reward.

A Haiku - Charity

Charity surrounds

Others with our love and thoughts

Turned to actions now.

A Haiku - Chastity

Oh, cleric you deceived.

Of thoughts and deeds condemned so.

Impossible goal?

True saints' miracles

Count chastity as supreme.

What can mortals do?

In thoughts and deeds

We too stand condemned and fail.

Is the bar too high?

Pure thoughts? Pure deeds? No.

From an endless love within,

Purer thoughts and deeds.

A Haiku - Daring

What is true daring?

Must it succeed to be real?

Boldness with some luck?

Willing to try it,

Inspite of all the risks then.

Ventured on and tried.

"Foolhardy" some would say.

"Bold, quite adventuresome too".

Can you dare to try?

When does daring start, certainly as a youth; perhaps as early as learning to walk.

So much to learn, and so many rules to master.

Time is short. Decisions are urgent. Do you dare, or not?

Marriage only starts a home. Moms and Dads are expected to work to have it become a family home, even if not blessed with children.
