Something In The Planting

Updated on April 26, 2014

Dirt beneath my fingernails,
sunshine on my face,
ant bites in between my toes,
all gifts of Gardener's Grace...

There's something in the planting
that nourishes my soul,
when I drop a tiny seed into
a freshly dug dirt hole,
then gently cover up that seed
and water it with care...
to find that in a day or two
a small green shoot is there.

Then sprinkle it so tenderly
and keep it free of weeds...
and watch it grow each day by day,
to give it what it needs...

Perhaps it is that I relate
to the Master Gardener's role...
but there is something in the planting
that nourishes my soul.

Paul, perhaps you are right! It is so spiritually fulfilling to plant, an act of "Honoring" the Master Planter! Thank you!

Tndr- I think that is the closest we ever come as still living mortals to feeling how God must have felt with pride and joy at his creating of us. -Paul

Interesting poem that is so real.I agree with you because it also surprises me that you just bring a tiny seed, bury it beneath the soil after a while the seed begins to germinate. This shows that God is wiser than men.

Life's little pleasures are the most incredible...

You are our christening spring time poet Tender, although, much like Florida, here in SoCal it's hard to tell...

      Beautiful poem my friend!!

there's something in the planting that nourishes my sole, so true. I look forward to spring when I can work in the garden and watch mother nature do her thing. It's so enjoyable watching your bounty grow bigger every day.

      Wow!

Beautiful in its simplicity and in its truth. There's just something about planting a garden and watching the little fellows grow. Maybe it's our empty nest substitute.
