Song Lyrics - I'm Gonna Have To Do It

Updated on March 17, 2011

Why won’t you go away?
There is nothing more for me say
Why do you want me to hurt you?

I don’t want to be mean
I don’t want to cause a scene
You want me to do the dirty work don’t you?

Every man wants you
But instead you want me
Every man needs you
But instead you need me
Don’t put that on me
Don’t make my day

I can’t take the responsibility
Your happiness is beyond my capability
You’ll wait till I set the sun on you

Every man wants you
But instead you want me
Every man needs you
But instead you need me
Don’t put that on me
Don’t make my day

I remember every good time
They were more than I could stand
There’s no one out there like you
But I can’t be your one man band

Now I’m living with the dread
Your crushed heart reforming in my head
You’re making me the bad guy aren’t you?

Every man wants you
But instead you want me
Every man needs you
But instead you need me
Don’t put that on me
Don’t make my day

We’re playing this game of chicken
And I’m mad ‘cause you want to be the victim
You'll force me to do it won't you?

@Sweet Nellieanna - You're right... it's unhealthy in the long run to stay in a situation that is so limiting. You have to have the confidence in yourself to grow even if it is without another person by your side.

SP - one never moves on without anything, if only better understanding of self and others. :-)

@Nellieanna - I'd almost forgotten about this one. Sometimes it's easier to just stay in that dead-end; especially if something about it works for the time being. But moving on without anything but hope is hard for some folks...

Yes - that's what dreams are for. I really like what you said to Teylina - yes, it's true that when one is stuck in a circular situation, no matter who's doing the circles, one can't see the other ripe possibilities.

@Eiddwen - Thank you for your kind remarks.

@Nellieanna - no... this music stuff will come later hopefully. I have a crazy dream. My seven year old daughter can sing and has done so in public several times already. She is learning to play the piano and loves to dance. I hope someday that she will be the mouth piece for my writings. Maybe not this one but I hope as she becomes more mature that she will read the things her father has written and will want to work with me so we can create something together.... That day is not today but what are dreams for?

@Teylina - thank you. The song is meant for a person who doesn't get it.... I've been on both sides of this in the past. Sometimes it's easier to stay in what I would call a beautiful cul de sac instead of taking the chance to turn around and find a street that will open your life to you...

I like Nellieanna's comment--when am I gonna hear this? Seriously, beautifully put. I have a son that needs to get his girlfriend to read it, since she won't listen to him--at least that was the case the last I heard from either of them. Since they're in south, south florida, they may just end up feeding each other to gators if she doesn't start listening, but then he didn't use your words! Think lots of us have felt this, but didn't know quite how to say it. Search out some labels in Music City--enormous variety of genre in Nashville--not all country.

Amazing, SP. So - have you written the music for it?
