Song Lyrics - It's As If We Never Met

Updated on December 8, 2011

You would have laughed
It was something you loved
But then I remembered
We’re not together anymore

I wanted to call you
And tell you about our rose bush
But then I remembered
We’re not together anymore

Everything you loved and cared for
Is waiting for you to be home soon
But you won’t be coming for them
Your new life has no room

My heart is trying to remember
The things my mind wants to forget
I'll never understand the way you left
It was as if we never met

You promised a pot of gold
My beautiful rainbow
But when I got there
The rainbow was no more
A child’s game
Of make believe
Made me forget
How love can deceive

Everything you loved and cared for
Is waiting for you
To be home soon
But you won’t be coming for them
Your new life has no room

I met a new girl the other day
I guess I caught her eye
But her name was the same as yours
I can’t get away even when I try

@Sally - Thank you. This guy can't win...

@V - Thank you. Awesome is good! I really appreciate how you are following me and commenting so much.

@brandasaur - That's true. I've loved and lost for sure and it felt terrible. But you have to live on.

@Teylina - Yes the name thing has happened to me once. But it is really a symbolic way of showing how he is haunted by her and how sudden it all ended.

Heart and soul--a whole love story in a few lines; enough to make one weep. Not sure if the Name Thing really happened, but my son swears it does. Three girls in a row after his divorce--all the same name. He quipped he was ready to go out with somebody whose name he didn't know.

I can feel the longing in this poem. Heartbreaks are part of our lives. You have to be strong and accept that some love stories really don't have a happy ending.

Loved this poem . . . even though the last lines are haunting -- not together anymore OR your life has no room . . .

The last verse is especially poetic . . . and the last line -- I can’t get away even when I try
