Song Lyrics - It's Gonna Be Over Soon

Updated on January 28, 2011

She
She wants to talk
In public
In a restaurant
Right then
My heart sank
My mind went blank
And then I knew
It's gonna be over soon

Walking
Walking towards my execution
She
She seemed tense
This
This can't be good
I know
Yeah I know
It's gonna be over soon

It's gonna be over soon
It's gonna be over soon
No matter what I say
It's gonna be over soon

There
There she quietly waits
Stirring
Stirring her iced tea
Thinking
Thinking how to say it
I know
Yeah I know
It's gonna be over soon

She
She looked at me
With
With cold eyes
I could
I could plainly see
She was
She was afraid of me

It's gonna be over soon
It's gonna be over soon
No matter what I say
It's gonna be over soon

I couldn't
I couldn't believe
How
How can this be true?
The girl
The girl I love
Is afraid
Afraid of me

Why doesn't she know
That I would never hurt her?
No matter what she says
No matter who she loves
Why doesn't she know?

It's gonna be over soon
It's gonna be over soon
No matter what I say
It's gonna be over soon

@Vern - yeah it's sad... lately I've been avoiding the gushy "Oh how I love you" stuff. It seems pain and hurt are so much more interesting. Thanks again for taking the time to make your comments.

@Cheyenne - I kind of remembered a Seinfeld episode where George avoided having lunch with his girlfriend because she said that... "we need to talk" NO WE DON'T! HA...

@Marina - alas... I must say that any talents that I possess disembark moments before the microphone is handed to me. I do play the piano though... I'm hoping a real singer will like the lyrics and want to plug them in and make the room come alive... in the meantime they live and breathe here as they are. Thanks as usual for being so supportive.

hmm, was she afraid of you or afraid of the pain that would come in hurting you? ... Do you like to sing Poet? You write a lot of song lyrics, I would like to hear you sing them. :) by the way, good pic, the man's face echos your piece here.

Odd isn't it how "we need to talk" signals the end of talking....

Hey, MAN! I just want to go to sleep after reading a few hubs!! Too sad!!! But it brings up a lot of stuff and sometimes I have known well ahead of time that a love was not going to last as much as I hoped it would, and I could be fooling myself, but I find myself a little more something and hope I never have to experience the "it's over" ever again, altho, I guess that is always a possibility.

@Apostle Jack - as Neil Young said:

      "Love is a rose

But you better not pick it

It only grows when it's on the vine

      A handful of thorns

And you know you missed it

You lose your love when you say the word mine"

Every time that we stop and smell the roses....we find MORE than the Rose ...EVERY TIME.

@Nan - thank you for commenting... firstly (if that is a word) this one is not necessarily autobiographical... I don't like to say one way or the other because in fact I do have ideas about situations that are not necessarily happening to me at the time. But I've experienced things in the past and been on both sides of the table so to speak. In this case the man could tell from the stiffness in the woman's voice when she uttered the dreaded "we need to talk" and he knew deep down inside that they weren't the picture of the happy couple downing strawberries and champagne together in Maui....

How did you know that it would be over, what was your cue that she no longer loved you. There had to have been a reason, and you are thinking it's too late to repair the relationship. Maybe not, there are other women, and you need to get on with your life.
