Song Lyrics - Let's Be Who We Are

Updated on May 30, 2011
Source

I spent all morning getting ready
Everything had to be just right
I was losing my mind over it all
I was trying to keep things light

When she walked in I could see it
Even though she tried not to let it show
I asked if she was nervous
She said, “Yes, how did you know?”

It’s because I’m nervous too
We’re both wishin’ on a star
But let’s take a chance
Let’s try something different
Let’s just be who we are

She smiled right away
She said “I’ve been freaking out!”
I told her don’t worry
There’s nothing for us to doubt

I asked her what she wanted in life
She said “A good-hearted man
‘Cause I’m a simple girl
Everything else I leave in God’s hand”

When she said that
It was all I had to hear
I knew she was the girl for me
Everything was clear

Yeah honey I’m nervous too
It seems people forget who they are
But let’s take a chance
Let’s try something different
Let’s just be who we are

She doesn’t need diamonds and gold
That’s ‘cause she told me so
She knows how life should be
Nobody can buy her soul

Yeah honey I’m nervous too
‘Cause I don’t drive no fancy car
But I’m not going to pretend
Let’s try something different
Let’s just be who we are

Hi Astra - thank you for the very kind remark. Great? Ok... I'll take it... Ha..... I hope to someday turn this into a song with someone's (anyone out there?) help. I have a good friend who is just finishing up his first CD (he's a guitarist/singer) but he is an unknown musician here in Austin. We've talked of collaborating even if it's just for fun on a Saturday night. Thanks again.

Perfect poetry and lyrics, take your pick. I felt like humming along to this. Wow, that doesn't happen too often. You are a great poet. Rating up. Thank you.

@Berga - thank you! I don't know where I find these pictures (ok, ok... on Google) but something always seems to pop up that fits what I'm trying to say.

@Fennelseed - Thank you! I hope it hits the charts someday. Maybe after I'm gone... :( My daughter can sing but she's only seven years old so we'll see...

@always - Thank you again!!!! It is straight forward. My prose can be the deep stuff... the songs sometimes just tell the story of two people. Real stuff because between us guys and gals there are no secrets. We both know the story and the song has to tell the listener what's going on.
