Song Lyrics - My Baby Ate The Apple

Updated on June 20, 2011
Source

She did it when I wasn’t looking
Her mind had gone astray
My little girl opened her eyes
It seems she grew up today

She put her hand up to her mouth
She told me that’s how older people kiss
She gave me a look of mischief
What I would say about this?

I left my little girl alone in the garden
And the serpent took my place
He showed her the apple
He put it close to her face
As she eyed the beautiful fruit
She said maybe I should wait
He said go ahead and eat it
Daddy can’t stop your fate

When did they move the years up so fast?
I thought I had plenty of time
Instead my girl's growing up
I didn’t see the sign

Did she learn this in school?
Or did she watch too much TV?
She’s barely out of kindergarten
But something set her free

I left my little girl alone in the garden
And the serpent took my place
He showed her the apple
He put it close to her face
As she eyed the low hanging fruit
She said maybe I should wait
He said go ahead and eat it
Daddy can’t stop your fate

It wasn’t what I wanted to see
It wasn't what I wanted to hear
But it’s too late now
She made that perfectly clear

Why am I so sad?
She was just having fun
I wanted her to play with dolls
Instead of thinking about the one

I left my little girl alone in the garden
And the serpent took my place
He showed her the apple
He put it close to her face
As she eyed the tempting fruit
She said maybe I should wait
He said go ahead and eat it
Daddy can’t stop your fate

She is seven years old... I just kind of brushed it off when she said it because I didn't want to make it a big deal. She likes to tease with me by doing things that I say don't do... I'm very playful with her but I do put my foot down as needed. Talking about sex with children is a big challenge. It's much more difficult than I'd imagined. I'm not a prude at all and I'm not walking around talking about sin either. I just know that it causes complications if not managed properly so I try to approach it from a common-sense stand point without making them feel like bad people for thinking about these things. It's normal... TOO NORMAL!!!

@bella - Thank you! My girl was showing me how people make out by doing it on her hand! Damn!!!! She was all giggles and smiles about it too... later I kept thinking about it then the idea of the serpent and the apple popped into my head....

@mckbirdbks - ok... I'll have to think on it...

@Micky Dee - Too much fruit out there my man! A girl in my daughters 1st grade class told me that another boy thought my daughter was hot! I couldn't believe it!

@JJ - Thank you for commenting... the speed of their evolution is breathtaking...

@mckbirdbks - thank you. Yes it was inspired by something that happened on Fathers's Day at a restaurant. It's tough to watch our daughters change. They don't seem to value the innocence like we do.

@Berga - Thank you! I truly appreciate such a kind remark... I found that picture on google and thought it was perfect...

This sounds like poetry inspired by Father's Day thoughts. Very moving piece. We both lament daughters.
