Song Lyrics - Tell Me I Can

Updated on September 19, 2011

Will you let me talk to whom I want?
Will you let me say what I want?
Tell me I can
Tell me I can
Then I’ll believe in America

Will you let me pray to whom I want?
Will you let me pray to nobody if I want?
Tell me I can
Tell me I can
Then I’ll believe in America

Tell me I can
Then show me
Tell me I can
Then join me
Tell me I can
So we both can be free

Will you let me think what I want?
Will you let me sing what I want?
Tell me I can
Tell me I can
Then I’ll believe in America

Will you let me be what I want?
Will you let me love who I want?
Tell me I can
Tell me I can
Then I’ll believe in America

America
Do you know who you are?
America
Are you more than colors and a star?
America
You are in my heart
America
When will you do your part?

Tell me I can
Then show me
Tell me I can
Then join me
Tell me I can
So we both can be free

We can...dear 'Suburban poet'...we have to say what we really think in spite of consequences, in spite of fear...it is not easy thing to do, but it is the only way to be really FREE:)...good luck with your wonderful poetry and songs and anything else that comes to your mind:)

Very important piece. Our freedoms are under fire from this administration and we had better hope that 2012 changes our direction.

      @matt6v33 - thank you!

@Beata Stasak - Thank you. It's our jobs as poets or whatever we are to speak out. If we don't who will? Most people are buried in their work and family lives...

@breakfastpop - Thank you. Regardless what anyone thinks government power continues to increase. It's scary....
