Song Lyrics - Wait For Me Lord

Updated on June 19, 2011
Source

I was thinking about Toy Caldwell and his brother
One died young and was followed by the other
They played us songs of the south
But now they’re known only by word of mouth

Today I was almost rear-ended but the car swerved
I was mad but realized a death row pardon was served
It’s an hour later and I’m still feeling queasy
Fifty years of livin’ almost ended all too easy

Did I get a wake-up call
Did God just get me to thinkin?
My life almost ended
I almost stopped breathin’
I realized how little I’ve done
I need to get my life turned around
I’ve lived a long time
But six more inches and I'd a been hell bound

I’m the kind of guy who gets goose bumps from a song
My eyes start to water and I wonder what’s wrong
But I know it’s because I’m a sentimental man
And for Toy Caldwell I’m much more than a fan

My children were at the swim meet again
When it’s over we know another year is about to end
It seems we need the children to bring us all together
We get out of the house and remember life ain’t forever

Did I get a wake-up call
Did God just get me to thinkin?
My life almost ended
I almost stopped breathin’
I realized how little I’ve done
I need to turn my life around
I’ve lived a long time
But six more inches and I'd a been hell bound

Lord help me
I just want to know why

I want to go to heaven
But I don’t want to die

I need to understand
Why this is so

I want to be with you
But I don’t want to go

Wait for me Lord
I’m not ready just yet
Wait for me Lord
Tell me you won’t forget
Wait for me Lord
I'm not ready just yet
Wait for me Lord
My mind still isn't set
Wait for me Lord
It's just for a little longer
Wait for me Lord
I need to get a little stronger

@Cogerson - Thank you! What you read is auto-biographical and is exactly what happened that day and how it made me feel...

@Jinny - thank you. Regardless what's in store for me I think my earth bound focus is because of my children. I have no idea what will happen but I want to be here until they can take care of themselves. I know how it feels because my Dad is 83 with Alzheimers and the thought of losing is slowly taking hold.

@Micky - I kind of go through phases when it comes to music. Right now it's Marshall Tucker. I loved them in college and then sort of put them on the back shelf. Then I youtubed them recently and it all came flooding back. It's weird how the death of someone (Tommy) I didn't even know can affect me so much. It's just a dream now. It scares me because when I think how great he and Toy were and yet he died so suddenly. And then I almost was rammed from behind....

This lyrics are beautiful and they bring forth a pondering of many of us... WE want to be with the Lord, yet we are not feeling ready to die... LEave the world behind? Why are we so earth bound sometimes when we should be heaven bound? Excellent portray of the inner longings my friend. I guess when we are totally free of bondage is when we feel no fear of death for we know we will be in heaven soon with the greatest LOVE of all.

      I wanna go...

I remember when Tommy died. I've seen the spot where it happened. Dark day. I remember Toy singing so clearly. Marshall Tucker was a piano tuner. Marshall Tucker was a fantastic band the world will never see the likes of again.

Their music made many of us feel worthy of being children of a great South. Their music - still - makes me want to swim in the Tyger. God bless!
