Song Lyrics - Waiting For The Ring

Updated on November 30, 2011

Watching boys for the spark
Seemed to be your thing
You looked deep into their eyes
And wondered does he have my ring?

Waiting for your life to begin
You went about your day
Love was the answer to you
All the rest was in the way

Waiting for the ring
But what then?
Are you going to be happy
Giving your life to him?

Is it love or the ring?
That's what I want to know
Are you really in love
Or is it all for show?

That rock blinds me
It's what you are now
I wanted to get to know you
But that's not what life will allow

It's a beautiful ornament
But it has no depth
Maybe you think he does
It's too bad we just met

Waiting for the ring
But what then?
Are you going to be happy
Giving your heart to him?

Is it him or the ring?
That's what I want to know
Are you really in love
Or is it all for show?

You want to be liberated
But I think you made a mistake
You're leaving your parents
And are swept up in love's wake

Can you look me in the eye
And say you don't love me?
Tell me you love him
Has the ring set you free?

Waiting for the ring
But what then?
Are you going to be happy
Giving your soul to him?

Is it him or the ring?
That's what I want to know
Are you really in love
Or is it all for show?

@chrisam01 - Thank you! I try not to strategize when it comes to love. I'm just going to be myself (charming and wonderful! Ha).... no head games...

@HattieMattieMae - Small rings look good I think; I don't like to be blinded anyway! Ha....

Ha ha...very true Suburban, thankfully I'm one of those women that thinks you have a big rock on your finger, you asking to get your finger cut off! lol was always one to like more dainty rings, but of course my fingers are skinny and long, so big rocks just look stupid on them. lol

I am a motal like you. And life is a game we all play. Some play with different strategies than others but we're all playing. I look forward to reading more!

@chrisam01 - I am but a mere mortal in the ways of love and certainly am not the holder of all the secrets of women and their egos BUT... I do stand around and pick up some useful information every now and then and it does SEEM as if BETWEEN WOMEN there is a bit of the "Ha Ha... look how big my rock is" game that goes on. I know of some young unmarried girls who are also under enormous pressure from their mothers to get married and these lyrics also kind of covered that issue. Men have it so much easier... of course, we do have to pay for the rock.... and for the GIFT of your love... :)

This is great: "Are you really in love

Or is it all for show?" Great job! I once put on a show - now, so glad the curtains came down on it. Lovely piece!

At least you were being practical. I hear those big ones snag everything anyway... Marriage is so difficult. I don't know how people stay together....

Oh, so very true! When I was younger I said no, to the big ring, cause I liked smaller ones, but still was a castastrophe, because I was unwise. :)

      Thank you never,

It just came to mind the other day and I went with it... I've known some women who have made big relationship mistakes because the ring was the priority...

      Thank you Nayo...

That's right.. it's the idea that everyone is getting married and it's like a contest for the ring; but what about the love? Yes... then what... that the real question.

It is funny girls we are waiting for the ring like it is the new life!!!! Of cause it is, surely a difficult life... And all the little dreams we have is going to be shared, which is nice, and that only bloody bed going to be shared too, OH that's not right! lol I love this song I think this needs a singer and music, Ideally summer music. Because it is summer of life, that we are this stupid to fall in love, and go after him, Then what? well never thought about that!

      Christopher,

You're funny... yeah I know this girl too... from long ago but it's my observation in general how it seems some women live for the altar and don't give the rest of life a chance....

This would make a Great Country Western Song...It's got all the elements...The greed of the woman for the ring...her security blanket...the man who also loves her and the man who has no idea there is anyone else...Good Song. Thank you.

      "You...Step away from that woman!"

She is a wack-job, and you might get hurt.

I think I've met this gal. I remember her best in the rearview mirror.

This is a well done ditty I'd love to hear set to music.
