Songs And Ballads 2-Lovers Lament

Updated on February 13, 2010

Lovers Lament

That night she turned and walked away
Ignoring the yelling of my heart
Beneath the moon she left me still
Her fading silhouette but a memory now

Old ghosts now haunt the sidewalks edge
That night she turned and walked away
And street-lamps pave a luring escape
to lead me on my lonesome way

The barking dogs howl out her name
Buses play jazz with sorrowful horns
That night she turned and walked away

left lost in the light of a drunken moon

Now left to wander with bitter lament
Beneath the crowds of crystal stars
Scorn upon my eggshell mind
That night she turned and walked away

Been in and out of Connemara the last 8 years, I moved from Dublin to Galway, and now live in back in Galway City after spending 2 years in Canada and The States. I've a lot of friends, crazy heads from Connemara, and I've spent a lot of time on the main Aran Island. So I'm a big believe in using tho tools of nature to practice my writing. I find it hard enough just to sit at a computer, waiting to feel the wind in the Burren etc. Are you out there yourself.

Have you spent much time in Connemara, I can see loads of inspiration there for your writings, I juts thought of that when I reviewed your poem again...

I must agree with Immartin... The greatest works of poetry come from love, and love lost. Silly, silly girl, this one who walked away. Nicely done.

Mournful, indeed. Very lovely as well. If not for fickle hearts, what would poets write?
