Speculate

Updated on October 14, 2013

It is a brisk cool day~

Upon the mountain top~

Silence has been optimum every where~

As the multi colored leaves casually fall to the ground. ~

The sunshine brightens this autumn day~

Yet warmth still is not to be found.

I contemplate a chore to be done~

As I notice the leaves have taken over~

What water was left in the bird bath. ~

Remembering yesterday~

The frustrated scared~

Blue jay~

Which flew quickly away~

After he was lucky to have had a sip of water~

More frightened than thirsty that day.

Earlier on this day~

I had to walk closer~

To see what was sitting so still~

Frozen in time~

On the sketchy pine tree branch? ~

Closer~

I walked to clarify~

What I saw? ~

Yes it was a chipmunk! ~

Now alarmed~

He disturbed ran off!

From my porch~

Only stocking footed~

Sitting in my usual chair~

I watch my angel kitty~

Mosey down the~

Outside stairs.

Now breakfast I am eating~

On the porch without a care~

As the fall beauty~

Surrounds me hush-idly~

I am so blessed I feel~

To be here~

With my mind always swirling~

With possible rhymes~

When possible~

I write them down in time.

Unannounced to me~

A siren broke the quiet air~

The calm interrupted~

Tranquility now amiss! ~

What rouse is this? ~

I wonder? ~

What could become of this?

I heard the alarm bell~

Announcing~

As it climbed the mountain winding road~

I imagined it snaking~

The twisted side road!

Up and up it came! ~

Growing closer as it screamed! ~

Finally passing our hidden log house~

Hiding up the hill behind all the colored trees~

My sight obscured~

From the sight of it with still~

An abundance of leaves.

The warning as it went pass our yard~

Was as loud as it would get! ~

Fading away the danger signal~

In the distance it did go on~

Till it was heard no more~

Where it stopped? ~

Or~

What it was? ~

I can only speculate? ~

As certainly worried for souls~

I did contemplate?

Now the silence only a minute~

Did it last~

When yet another siren could be heard mountaineering the same pass!

Another two minutes~

Yet a different sounding siren~

Over took our homey skirt! ~

I thought I caught a glimpse of this~

A fire truck making its way~

Past our beautiful trees! ~

Leaving still the first two vehicles~

By only conjecture still posed?

One more siren~

Climbed that mountain I could hear! ~

Now my mother by this time had~

Come out on the porch to see~

All the commotion~

That had been disturbing our~

Peace as it too grew near! ~

Yes I could barley see this one too~

It was an ambulance the last to go~

Arriving at~

The distant destination still~

A mystery to our eyes though?

Than I and mother~

Standing on the porch~

Now only with a calm light sound of a breeze~

Rustling off those stubborn leaves~

Reflected on what all those sirens could mean?

We guessed? ~

We considered? ~

We bothered over possible endangered lives? ~

We thought of hypothesis? ~

Reasoning what could it all be? ~

Yet alas we could only~

Speculate at best~

Finally quieting our minds~

We slowly put it aside~

Putting irrational thoughts to rest.

Time has shortly now passed~

Once again I am alone~

On the sun dappled porch~

Sitting back in my chair~

Still thinking~

As mostly nature I reflect again~

With anything that enters my mind~

With not much of a care~

Always my thoughts a swirl of rhymes~

Some of them I write~

Pretty fair.

It is a brisk cool day~

Upon the mountain top~

Silence has been optimum every where~

As the multi colored leaves casually fall to the ground. ~

The sunshine brightens this autumn day~

Yet warmth still is not to be found.

Here you were capturing the dignity of Autumn. Great poem chock full of reality taking place in nature, as you enjoy your day, you also ponder and speculate over happenings in the day, and return to the calmness of a peaceful day. Voted up!
