Spell it the Way it Sounds

Updated on April 19, 2017
One shelled(duh) critter.
One shelled(duh) critter.

The alphabet and all of those vowels...,

A,E,I,O, and U,(sometimes w and Y).

Comprise basics of our own language,

The spelling may leave as many to sigh.

Words using consonants need re-spelling,

And of this claim, just let me tell you why.

Lobbed(duh), to be iced(duh), loaded(duh),

chaffed(duh), and gagged(duh), all apply.

Don't let this quacker quack you up!
Don't let this quacker quack you up!

I just sighed(duh), Raj(uh), never knows,

When the cake may soon be baked(duh).

Don't get riled(duh), no one harmed(duh),

Many words. condoned(duh), foresaked.

The responsible parties, the crazy spellings,

All coped(duh) with, not to be tranqed(duh),

Those words so shared(duh), are so bizarre,

Their absence not owned(duh), ranked(duh)

Overjoyed(duh)!
Overjoyed(duh)!

The omission of the DUH, is at the very end,

Noted(duh) and in all our minds, saved(duh).

Each is boxed(duh) away, on a shelf to stay,

As the keeper dozed(duh), is unfazed(duh).

By the way, weigh every word, all here to stay,

Don't tell tales, it so compels, to try another day.

Don't eat too many apples, because I ate eight,

I regret, so did forget, it causes a stomach ache.

I guess I'm glad DUH is not at the end of most words...crazy spellings, is that a new complaint, sound-a- likes?...duh...

Glad you liked it, my friend. Yes, words can be so confusing and entertaining as well. Many blessings. whonu

Great play with words and spelling! English words can be confusing but most spellings have a purpose (originally!) and come from varied invaders, hence the richness of English. I sympathise with those whose first language is not English!

      This is most entertaining.

Love you poetic grammar lessons. Even as much as I write sometimes things do go the wrong way and the most frustrating is the speller checker not picking up what I have written because I got the word completely wrong.

Those consonants must be deliberate and executed as you've pointed out. By all means, add the duh when necessary to promote eloquent diction,
