Spring and Autumn Rain - a Haiku Collection

Updated on November 25, 2016
Jodah profile image

John has been writing poetry since his school days. He was awarded "Poet of the Year 2014" Hubby Awards and has had two poems become songs.

These poems are my first attempt at "Haiku", so please bear with me if they aren't perfect. I don't really think this will be my forte but I have to try everything at least once.

Spring Rain

Spring rain makes me smile

Birds sing, flowers bloom brightly

The world is alive.

Green

Send the rain down Sam

The land is brown and dying

Green is much nicer.

Raindrops on the Roof

Such a welcome sound

It is raindrops on the roof

Heaven on iron.

Source

Naked in the Rain

The caress of rain

Massaging my naked skin

I don't care who sees.

Source

Rain, Rain, go Away!

"Rain, rain, go away

Come again another day,"

Who said such dumb words?

Source

Waking Up to Rain

Waking up to rain

Tap tapping on the window

Makes my day happy.

Source

Autumn Rain

Welcome Autumn rain

How I love to hear your beat

Sweet pitter patter.

Singing words gently into my heart. Woke up in the dark this morning and was greeted by a wonderful rain. Our desert here needs it so badly. I think your poems brought it to us. Thank you friend. If a butterfly batting it's wings in China can cause wind in Colorado, how much more so a poem.

Rains are my favorite sight to see. Children laughing all the way and enjoying rains, people rushing past the streets with beautiful umbrellas in their hands and above all the musical sound of pitter patter of rain mingling with a gentle touch of wind. My all these feelings arose in me when I read your beautiful haikus. Well done, John, though this is your first attempt but the craft and effect of these poems is awesome ! A good start. I especially liked the one with "Waking up to rain . . . . This particular haiku contains action, sound, and feeling. Good job!

      Heaven on iron--good contrast!

In German, the "Rain, rain, go away" goes:

      Regnet, renet, gehe forte

Ging weg bis ein anderer ort!

Translation of last line: Go away until [you get to] another place! In other words: Rain somewhere else!

Are you familiar with the Sesame Street song, "It's a Rainy Day?"
