Spring of storms.........Free verse

Updated on May 26, 2014

I've watched it for decades as if
interference on an old black and white TV
white and falling snow
distorting the fields
midway beyond the house
and swaying pine trees

The season of my solitude
that comfort zone soon to
become balmy spring
I will miss you like an old
and uncomfortable
friend

Like some forgotten cold weather
lover
to come around but
when you need the likes
of me the most
for one night
a year

And after that lovers night to look
forward finally for her to go
in a bright new
morning
No friends
nor a lover
only the anticipation
of new seasons

An interesting poem, although here it's the other way around - we're coming into winter and I look forward to the cosiness of home while the weather rages outside. Enjoy your summer!

I love your poem, dear Ed.

The seasons and their creeping fingers which fondle the previous one for decay and the oncoming one for ripeness, always intrigue me. Beginning to change one's wardrobe and bedcovers for the arriving season, while keeping that of the departing one closeby for quick reprieve as needed or anticipated is one of the interesting, less poetic features, but one which defines what is happening on a personal level so intimately.

My bedroom chair is usually draped with clothes from one end of the spectrum to the other and are often changed during any given day!

Meanwhile, this present shifting season here in Dallas for several months - from cold to hot to cold to hot - has been an almost predicable challenge and broken record! Hardly need to watch the weather news. It will be another roller coaster, with most of the hoped-for rain missing this area with almost deliberate precision as the areas west, north, south and east of us get it and we get only wispy suggestions of it.

At least the weather report is colorful -- the colors indicating the varying severity of the systems around and about which we're being 'spared' are like a veritable rainbow.

At this moment on my TV screen our poor head meteorologist is again attempting to reassure us that we may still be touched with the magic of some moisture before it all clears out for - - - probably the whole summer.

Thank you, dear Ed-buddy. You inspire my optimism. Sometimes it does seem that the prevailing weather systems do 'reign' like monarchs over our helpless human happenings. In some people's occupations more than others. I really pity those whose crops are wiped out and whose homes are destroyed by an unfeeling weather feature.

However, I personally tend to find the good and beauty in whatever prevails for me in a very real way, sort of basking in whatever it may be. But I've not been struck by fires, floods or tornados.

A gentle nudge in optimism's direction is so appreciated and valuable. It reminds me how blessed I am, too.
