Steps into an unsavory world of mind.

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

One step, tentative,

one smile, unreadable,

one action, unpredictable,

and trust wanes.

Heart's held,

in anticipation,

held tightly, vulnerable,

from an open soul.

Young in memory,

flagrant abandon,

on a tide of emotion,

imploring, accepting.

Old in experience,

blatantly cynical,

but ever-hopeful,

for a giving heart.

The stabbing is clean,

the blood-letting sure,

and the soul weeps,

another wall, a spite unleashed.

Curled as a leaf,

a body bare,

enclosed pain,

and disappointment true.

An avalanche of disparaging truths,

flood the mind,

refocussed,

questioning the self.

Examination,

introspection,

and the flutter of a heart

attempting future.

Balance sought,

moral acceptance,

guiltless appeasement

and a stilled heart.

Connection,

self-understanding,

blameless reality,

and the parting complete.

I am whole,

enriched by all the pain,

that teaches well,

my solemn path of learning.

Acceptance fills my cup,

yet the heart still yearns,

for the improbability

of profound love.

Every person we meet on this journey of life offers something: a lesson, a heartache, a love, a friendship, and all we can ever do is be open to these gifts, seemingly good or bad. For they all become a part of us, who we will become.

Great poem, and the ending is, as one of your words says, profound!

      Very good stuff my friend.

You are very kind, epigramman, and considering the quality of your own work, your compliment is very much appreciated. I have been writing for many years and even after 12 books, I find poetry my greatest love. A shame there's no money in it these days, but of course that's not my goal. Just been round the world and experiencing summer mostly, then having to come back to winter here is a blow. My forebears came from Canada and its definitely my next trip if I can manage it. Again thank you for your kind words, it is very much appreciated and does an old heart good to know that I can connect to people with my words.

You are definitely a cut above the rest as a writer/poet Tony and when I say a world class writer/poet I mean that you are in an exclusive category all of your own - I love the intriguing title here - I think titles are very important don't you? It's so nice to hang out with you again and I am amazed and impressed not only with your prolific output but the quality of each piece (that I have read) ..... you are just a natural force of literary nature and it all comes from that beautiful mind and heart of yours. This is another fabulous piece that I shall post and link to my FB page to all to see and read

We just had Canada day on Monday and we are currently in the middle of our summer - but where does the time go? Summer is already half way over and here in Canada - we have four seasons as you know with very dramatic differences in the weather.

Sending 2 high fives to you from 1 pair of human hands and 4 paws, lol, courtesy of Colin and his cats at lake erie time ontario canada 10:20am
