How to Apply for a Tatkal Indian Passport

Step 1-

Log on to & click on the link “Download e-form” on the home page of the website. You can operate the site at home also & even at the Passport Seva Kendra center of your city. There are separate computers inbuilt in every Passport Kendra of all cities for the said purpose. So, choose your own preference.

After you have Clicked on the link "Download e-form" then download the e-form. Prefer downloading it at a place where there is a printer. After downloading the the form you need to fill it with right instructions as mentioned in form.

Step 2-

Now after you have successfully downloaded the form, then you just need to fill it correctly with proper care. You can take help of passport authorities on phone (Helpline Number has been stated at end of this article), through e-mail & at Passport Seva kendra to fill the form easily.

After that go back to the Passport main site & register yourself as a new user on the site.

Step 3-

After completing the above procedure, go back to site & log in with your Username & Password which you used to register yourself on the site. Then there click on the "Upload e-form" link. Then browse the e-form which you filled earlier. Upload it by selecting it.

Step 4-

After you have successfully uploaded your form, then Click on the "Applicant form link". If you have uploaded your form correctly, then after clicking on above link, you will get your ARN No. This number is referred as " Applicant reference number" which gives you a separate identity & is used by passport authorities to issue you a passport.

Step 5-

Then finally after getting your ARN no., click on the " Manage appointment link". There you will get all the time available for you to visit the Passport Kendra for applying for passport. Select the date & time which is best suited to you & reach there on time. You will also get the appointment slip. Take out it's printout also. When you reach there, you will have to take some documents with you which have been explained below.

There they will verify your Documents & then send you to next level. There they will take your photo, finger prints & verify your details. If they are satisfied, they will send you ahead where a separate authority will verify your ID proof & Address proof. After all this procedure, you will get your receipt & then you can go. You will get your passport which prescribed time, depending upon your Area of Jurisdiction.

Step 6-

Reach the nearest Passport Kendra office on the Appointment date & at right time with all the necessary documents with their originals as mentioned below-

ARN No. Printout
The printout you took out of the ARN No. Take it's 2 photocopies with you at the Passport Kendra office. It will be used to certify your identity.
Appointment Slip
The appointment you placed with passport authorities. You would have got it's reciept . Take out it's printout & take it with you to passport office.
Birth Certificate
You also have to take the Original & photocopy of Birth Certificate with you issued by Local authority. If your name is not written on your certificate, then you will have to purchase a affidavit in the office only & fill your name & birth details in it. Attach it with Birth certificate to submit.
Address proof
The list of applicable address proofs is given on the website. You need to take any 1 of those. Eg- Your Driving license or your Bank Passport Photocopy etc. Any of these would be used as your address proof. Remember to take the original with you.
Identity Proof
Like Address proof, it's details is also given on the website. Eg- Driving license, Pan Card photocopy etc. Remember to take the original with you.
2 Attested photos
2 attested photos will need to be taken. Although it is just for your verification. Your photo will be taken on the spot by their authorities which will be used by them on your passport. So look smart before going for your appointment.
