Story-Girls games?

Games I learned....

It is so much fun to be almost a second grader..I have learned some really fun games to play...

My sister and I , at home, love to spin around and get dizzy then fall to the floor and get the giggles...and we also have a whole lot of fun playing Hide and Seek, but I have lot's of new games now...

Like:

Drop the Handkerchief...there is a circle of girls and one walks behind them and drops a hanky at someone's feet and runs and that person has to pick up the hanky and catch me before I take her place in the circle, if she doesn't catch me it is her turn to drop it behind someone else and run...we giggle a lot at this game, cause hankies are very silent.

Jumping rope and they even have rhymes that we sing when we are jumping...here is one :

"Fudge fudge tell the judge...momma has a new born baby... It isn't a girl...it isn't a boy...it's just a new born baby...wrap it up in tissue paper, take it down the elevator..first floor stop....second floor stop...third floor DO NOT stop cause HOT spells hot"...then the girls on either end of the rope turn it really fast...

Something else we learned when we don't know who should start first, is "Eenie Meenie Meini Moe catch a monkey by his toe, if he howlers let him go, eenie meenie meini moe...and who ever is the last person to be touched is the one to begin...

Or there is One potato two potato three potato four five potato six potato seven potato more...you are it...

I don't see boys playing these games, I guess they are for girls only?

We also like to play jacks and I am pretty good at this game, my hands are quick and I hardly ever miss the ball.

One other game that I like a lot is with clapping our hands. You face your friend and clap each other's hands whilst singing a song...here is one I like..."A sailor went to sea sea sea, to see what he could see see see, but all that that he could see see see was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea".

A fun one with all of us in a big circle is..."Farmer in the Dell" each person picks someone like the farmer picks the wife, the wife picks the child, the child picks the nurse, the nurse picks the dog, the dog picks the cat the cat picks the rat...

I try to teach my sister but there aren't enough of us...but I think mommy is gonna have a baby...???

Girls games ?

How many of these games do you remember or have ever played?

Sounds like you had a fun childhood. My daughters play a few of these. I will have to tell them about the others. How many of them do you play today?

We used to play a lot of these games, too, G-Ma--thanks for reminding me of them...when we played "Eenie Meenie Meini Moe", we always caught a tiger, instead of a monkey, lol....

I love the way you write--I felt like I was a child again--and right there with you, reading this!

My mom used to have to drag me around with my older sister, and then make her include me in their games. Oh, that was popular! I remember drop then handkerchief. I think some teacher had the class play it, girls and boys together. Thanks, G-Ma!

G-Ma, what sweet memories in this hub! Thanks! :-) It's really intriguing how kid games are so very similar all over the world, sometimes even the names of the games are the same!

I remember these games, hadn't thought of them in a while. We used to play 'In and out the windows' where we stood in a cirle, holding arms high, save one. SHE would weave in and out under the arms with the others following. Eventually we were all in knots , the one to let go was 'out'
