Story-Manners
When I grow up.....???
When I grow up...I hope I remember all the rules mommy and daddy keep telling me and my sister...seems now that I am in school there are so many things to learn and it just makes my stomach hurt sometimes.
The grown up people sure want us to learn a lot really fast.
...Please-Thank You- Yes Mam-Yes Sir-Speak when spoken to-Sit straight- Children are meant to be seen and not heard-chew all your food-eat it all gone, there are many people who don't have food-eat everything on your plate-don't talk with your food in your mouth-and they go on some more, but now I can't think of anymore...
We get to buy new shoes on Saturday..and they have this funny machine that takes a picture of your feet in the shoes..it only shows your bones though, and that is so mommy can see if the new shoes fit well. It doesn't hurt or anything, but I was afraid the first time...and you have to hold very still too.
My sister kept moving her feet and so they had to take the picture over two times...mommy was getting upset...
So anyways after we eat our dinner, we have to ask to be excused and pick our plates up...sometimes we hide food we don't like underneath and daddy gets mad. I wonder why they give us food we don't like? And why they put so much on the plate and I get full, but they still say "eat everything" or no desert. I always have room though for desert...
After we are done me and my sister have to sweep the kitchen floor and help dry the dishes, but daddy goes in the frontroom and listens to the radio and smokes a funny thing called a cigar. I don't like the smell from that but he thinks it is very nice.
Anyways I hope I can remember all the Manners we are learning and I will have to teach them to my children, I guess. But for now is just me and my sister and we are doing good.

Gosh how I wish my kids were like that, or even like me when I was small. great story!

Hi G-ma! Things are still busy busy here, but I just do a bit of hubbing to be in touch.
You will make a great storyteller, and I hope you do some stories set in the time of your childhood, as everybody is enjoying retro stuff. I'm planning a book like that too.
Frank? I think he is just taking a break like I did. :)
Love you too, heaps. Hugs. :)
Sweet times! I enjoyed your trip back, though I don't really care for lessons on etiquette. :)
I love that machine, never knew of its existence,
Thanks, G-Ma! Hugs.
Brings back lots of memories.
You must send me a post when you traverse this way (when the bridge reopens) and we shall have coffee!
You did well in remembering the abc's of good etiquette. Here are a few more, do you remember these?
"What's the magic word", "What do you say", "Did you wash your face and hands", "Excuse me", "May I', and "cover your mouth when you cough".
Great read as always, I didn't have worry about the shoe issue for in Arizona we just went barefooted in my time and forgetting your manners, that meant a trip to the bus-barn and a good ---wacking.
Hello G-Ma. So much to learn, so much pressure. Nice one.
G-Ma
Children will always be children no matter what their parents teach them. Thanks for another enjoyable read. I hope the little girl will never stop sharing her stories. Lurve ya and this! :D
Remember it well, well told G-Ma, I had forgotten how I felt, thanks for the reminder.
G-Ma hope you're being a good girl, now that you're all grown up! :)
G-ma, I'm new, been following your comments around town and thought I'd say hello! So you're in Sequim!! I'm in Kingston! Good to have another neighbor! I have great manners due in no small part from my own Gramma Johnson! I'm a new fan, #3 million something.
Good hub, G-Ma. You really do sound like a 9 year old. :)
G-Ma, good hub! I don't remember the x ray but I do remember dropping my peas on the floor one at a time thinking I wouldn't have to eat them. always got busted later. :p
I used to hate to eat as a child, especially vegetables, and would excuse myself and spit it out in the bathroom when I could get away with it. LOL! And, had no idea about the x-ray machine for shoes, wow, there is always something to learn about.
Enjoyed reading this. :)
Seems you remembered everything, and I bet you passed it along to your kids.?
I haven't seen it, ever since the transition came around, I haven't been able to focus on anything but that. But I know you are a root tootin me on!
always offer a beer to your guests. But i had to learn that one on my own.
It's very cool.
Yeah...it's different.
Wow, Lucey. That's just wild!!!!
Hi Laughing Mom! Yeah, I changed the avatar a bit....you can see the other one in the eye if you look closely.
I remember when I was younger and my Dad would smoke a cigar....he would blow huge smoke rings and my friends and I would chase them.
I remember those things, but Dad didn't smoke. The Xray machine is very familiar.
My mom would remind us of the starving people in India and China- I desparetely wanted to send them my excess.
Lucey, I didn't recognize your eye.
very cool G-Ma! I wish I could be like daddy after dinner, listen to the radio and smoke a cigar of some kind.
Yeah, I had never heard of that either.
Still sweet, G-Ma. But I didn't know anything about a picture taking machine for shoes!
