Strange Obsession

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. I have a wonderful cat named Sid.

It was a strange obsession,

he had with her,

she looked his way

and flashed her green eyes,

his world stopped turning –

till she uttered a single word.

Strange obsession

and his world was no longer right side up,

it had been turned over,

day he spent dreaming of only her.

She could play him like a violin,

pluck the strings of his heart,

leaving him wrung out

and wanting so much more.

Strange obsession that could turn,

him from a superhero,

into a clown in a moment’s time.

He wanted to sing all his songs just for her,

he wanted to write poems,

doing justice to her beauty.

Not a day went by,

did he not think why,

this strange obsession,

had grabbed a hold of his heart and soul.

Nothing else mattered,

the days they passed unseen,

when at last in the night,

he could be with her,

hold her in his arms,

while concertos played

and it seemed the world,

was a million miles away.

He created his biggest masterpiece,

just for this woman,

that held him in this strange obsession,

for her he played each note,

sang the lyrics.

and she, she laughed,

to think he was so obsessed,

to think he was there,

at her beck and call.

When the world,

applauded and begged for more,

he looked toward her for more inspiration,

but like the raging wind outside,

like a soaring bird in the sky,

she was gone from his life.

So he played like a madman,

played his creation for all to hear,

every note sounded crystal clear,

hoping she would hear,

return to him –

once again be dear.

But all was lost,

in a thunderstorm,

his heart beating in time,

he no longer could play,

no longer could sing,

this strange obsession –

had destroyed his life.

People use people all the time for their own selfish reasons. She brought out the best and the worst in him. If only he could use that energy to create another masterpiece better than the one before. Each line so vivid and real

Your poetry is amazing! Sometimes ones' mind can produce beauty and yet, be the driving force to insanity. That's what I felt while reading this poetic piece....

Strange obsession indeed! I like Dona Summers song. She's charming; great dress; more mature ...
