Subbing For A Lover.

Updated on April 17, 2017

Inadvertewt passings.....

What breaks in the
hermetically sealed
yon window???
could it be a smile,
bright and fair
and an eye winking at her,
for almost two weeks now
in the rushed blur of
two monoliths hurtling
passed each other,
holding many in the
belly of twin beasts,

And the next day a sign
saying "You are too cute!"
she'd barely read it before it
disappeared.... alpha-smitten
into a colored blur.

And the roses that appeared
where she sat every day,
and then the candy,
and a card that said
"I will only grow number
without yours...???
phone number that is...
she supposed -lol.

Then on one mundane
Monday morning
there he was in her seat
with two tickets
to a Broadway show,
and a reservation set up at
one of the finest restaurants,
and so they sat and laughed
and held hands briefly,
and a date was set
and happiness rode with them
till his stop was called
by the cord that is pulled,
to disrupt such joy,

(much like a babies cord
is pulled and cut free
from the mother's womb
it so cherished)

Then he was gone,
and the next mourn she woke up
realizing it was all a dream,
a lonely conjuring of her wishes
in the wee hours of the night
knowing with much misery
that she had to leave
the one sided depression
of her warm blankets for the
bitter cold of a subway ride.

after plunking down
in her seat,
lo, and behold
in a train passing by
on the opposite tracks
she caught a glimpse of
a brief smile and a wink,
and her heart soared
with the possibilities
yet to come!

"The world is filled with lonely souls

passing others who suffer the same plight

and yet never communicating the pain they share."
