Summer Comes

Updated on June 25, 2017

Summer comes and with it the dance of rain and of heat,

A hot sun parches cracking soil, as rain, a muddy retreat.

Highest white clouds billowing, a storm is certain nearby,

Thunder announces it's ushering in, on this we may rely.

Rain's drops patterning in the dirt, soon to run in rivulets,

Streams all rise in greater depths, across the dryer plain.

A flooding to then cascade, almost drowning near and far,

And just as suddenly, all is gone, receding without a stain.

Dry roads, dusty and red in colours, wind and weave about,

All across the countryside, vacant lanes, beyond any shout.

Rows of greening oak trees line, so neatly along pathways,

Unending crescendos, bird's serenades, shared all the days.

Cooling breezes waft through the hollows, all about the glen,

Blowing tall reeds along the lake, as the nighttime to begin.

A full moon beams its reflecting light, brightening all around,

Crickets chirp, frogs all croak, a fine symphony in its sound

Summer comes as Springtime goes, flowers soon are shed,

Fireflies light, in the night, Jasmine's scents all still linger on.

Dream time comes with darkness, its shadows scattering far,

A solitary loon's lonely song heard, in the darkness, all alone.

Summers in Central Florida and ungodly hot and very rainy. We finally get a reprieve during the winter months. However, I'll take the heat over cold and snow any day.

We know the Summer is here when break of electric power due to overuse of air conditioners, then we are looking toward the darkening clouds to bring some cooler rainy refreshment without a storm. Oh, how good is the Lord.

Whonu, it's one perpetual summer in the Caribbean. The heat is always with us (but we would not welcome the cold of winter). We can relate to the dust, the breezes, the crickets and more. Your poem absolutely describes our environment all year long.

I loved the beautiful imagery whonu.

We had a long hot summer, and now a surprising mild winter, which says to me. we could very well have a long summer with heatwave conditions to follow (and to often!)

I hope your summer is like the sweetness of honey.
