Summers Are Made for Rockin’

Updated on June 23, 2013

I remember

Summers of long ago

When days were carefree

And full of joy

I remember

Lazy summers

Spent on beaches

Just lying in the sun

Nothing could stand in the way

Of a wonderful day

Old rock tunes

And jumping among the waves

Summers just got harder

When the days of youth flew by

And life’s burdens

Took most of the happiness away

Now summer has come again

And brought its beauty

The days remind me of those

From my childhood

So I say

Let’s not waste another moment

Life still has lots to give

Let’s rock this summer while we can

Let’s rock this summer

Enjoy each sunny day

Sing our cares away

Wearing the brightest of smiles

Just kick off your shoes

And dance beneath the moon

Let’s rock this summer

And let the sunshine in

Just sit back and lick an ice cream

Take a look around you

Be aware of the beauty

Which surrounds you

Let those old rock tunes

Fill your heart with magic

Soon you will see

That summer can be fun indeed

So let’s rock this summer

Summers were made for rockin’

For feeling groovy

And doing a dance or two

Let’s rock this summer

Bring back the happiness of yesterday

Summers were made for rockin’

And enjoying each day

Cruising the streets in my '69 Camaro with the stereo blasting the Beatles and Stones. Will times ever be that innocent and lovely again?

Thanks for the memories. I'm going to put some Tom Petty on now and cruise in my mind.

Hi Gypsy. Another lovely poem. Yes I remember those lovely days. I used to go and see; the beatles, the stones, the quo, the who and so many more. Summer days and nights of yesteryear, Thank you for the lovely memories. When you are older, young ones think you don't know anything, but you do, it's all been done before by the previous generation. We older ones also enjoyed those secret meetings when memories of love and laughter were formed. These days we wonder what happened to those people of yesteryear which were so important to us. Now alas, they are but a memory.

      voted up and all.

Gypsy, wonderful memories, beautiful poem.... Summer days will always be groovy; except for the rain, if you're in the UK. But you are so right, there is so much beauty out there, we should make the best of it.

      Nicely done.

I don't have sweet memories associated with summer, but I like summer because it gives me an opportunity to trek in the Himalayas.

Loved your poem brimming with fresh metaphors. Your word pictures soothing.
