Sunsets We See

Updated on August 12, 2015

"A sunset....is what our lives should be: quiet, noble and unhurried."

— C.L. Rawlins

Sunset from my own backyard

Sunset on the water
Sunset on the water

The sun begins to dip and slide at the end of every day
It goes slowly out of sight no matter what we say

Rays, and hues and colors very bright
Lead us by the hand as we go into the night

It covers every object wherever it may shine
Wrapping it in color as if using twine

The reds, the oranges and sometimes even yellow
It's like the colors shouting or letting out a bellow

To tell us night is coming the day is at an end
The moon will soon appear our always night time friend

The colors fade as night drops in
With moonlight giving colors of a different kind of spin

Does daylight hide as sunset takes us to its nightly show
Or is it going down because there's someplace else to go

All those colors swirling right before your eyes
Bringing a soft twilight to the night awaiting sky

Is sunset part of what our life does to us every day
Slowly leading us somewhere, a place we learn to pray

Knowing that our life must end no matter what we do
Giving time to take each day and make a start anew

Before our final sunset ends the life we hold so dear
Taking us to somewhere new a place that holds no fear

Are sunsets sent to us to show the beauty that we see
Was put there to remind us of what future there will be

A beauty only He can know is waiting for us there
Something we can't learn to know or even learn to bear

A new life we can't know about, beyond our wildest dreams
Something new and beautiful not something this world seems

To know and cherish daily as we look and love and pray
A new world meant for us to follow in His holy way

Sunset over the ocean on the way to the Carribean
Sunset over the ocean on the way to the Carribean

So cherish every sunset as it teaches us to see
The person that our love has taught we were meant to be

I've compiled these poems of mine on sunsets to share with you. Having a day end with such beauty can only mean a better day is coming and God is watching over us.

Thank you Harishprasad, sunsets are as much a part of our lives as they are a part of our days.

Okay Micheal, are we talking fiction or non-fiction...maybe about poetry...give me a topic.

Glofgal, it is always so colorful with the larger sun. Warmer weather usually helps that. Where is McKinney?

MovieMaster, the sunsets at the Barnegut lighthouse are outstanding. Always nice when someone enjoys my poetry too!

Oh Michael, if I had written they are (as in my poems are) instead of the grammatically incorrect their you might have understood. I am so glad we cleared this up and appreciate your confidence in me. Thank you.

My darling Mary. Let me apoligize to you right away. I did misunderstand your comments and i am so sorry.

anyway I still am mad at you for saying your poetry does not reach the level of others. that is not so true.

your poetry is wonderful and thats why i could not understand why you would say something like that. Now that we both understand each other. let me say that you have me as a follower for life. so you better keep on writing that beautiful poetry that i like.

      Michael.

Whoa, you are misunderstanding me cleaner3 - it is MY poems I am talking about, I think MY poems are immature. I sometimes think I haven't reached the level of other hubbers. I would NEVER criticize the wonderful words and poems I read here. I strive to be like them.

I am sorry you misunderstood and that you feel you must stop following me. Yes, I will miss you.

Immature, really!! I find that I resemble that remark. I am but a humble poet and i don't think poems are immature at all. How can someone who writes poetry even say something like that. that statement sounds so snobbish. you have just lost me as a follower of you. Not that you will miss me, but that is the height of elitism. You should apoligize to every poet on the hubs.

      Michael.

Oh Effer...the sun will never set! Wow. What would I do without you to brighten my day?

Perspycacious, I appreciate your feedback..thanks for being there so quickly.

      Thanks xstatic

billybuc, now if I could just find a band to record it ;) Happy you enjoyed it.

Bob, I can't imagine the sunsets you must've seen, I'm sure they were incredible. As always, glad you enjoyed my poem and photos.

Hi Tilly. We take so much for granted. Imagine if we could only watch one sunset per year, thousands would be spent to get in position to see one. I lived in La Paz Baja, the sunset over the Sea was extraordinary and many gathered each night.

      Lovely poetry and photos.
