Superman Forever

Updated on June 16, 2013

My father is not a man blessed with super POWERS.

To provide for my brother and I, he'd work so many HOURS.

He never leaped a tall building in a single BOUND.

A leader and a motivator, in him encouragement can always be FOUND.

To be honest, he isn't a large man at ALL.

Doing what was deemed impossible, he seemed to be 10 feet TALL.

He wasn't Ward Cleaver or Cliff Huxtable, the classic fathers on the TV SCREEN.

He did not spare the rod and at times the man seemed outright MEAN.

When I matured into a man, I finally understood why his love was so TOUGH.

He wanted me to be strong, because the tides in the sea of life can be very ROUGH.

In my neighborhood, a lot of my friends rarely or never saw their FATHER.

Sadly, some of these men didn't even care enough to BOTHER.

Pops made it clear, he was my FATHER, not my FRIEND.

He instilled in me the principles of manhood, always honest, never did he PRETEND.

My parents were never married but I love, appreciate, and respect that he didn't leave my mother to raise me ALONE.

I'm glad I have my dad, the realest SUPERMAN, I've ever KNOWN.

      Man of Strength,

This is simply awesome! I'd so much rather hear the good stories than the sad ones and 'tis human to err and it leaves room for us to do so as well. Personally, I think the imperfect parents are the perfect ones!

      Voted everything but funny!

      Hugs,

      Cat

      My dearest Cat,

Thanks as always for your support. Dear old dad was far from perfect, but he gave me values that I carry today.

Well, this sounds like one "super man" I could respect (unless of course he wears his underpants on the outside?)...

      Nice tribute sir.

Trust me, if he wore his undies on the outside, I wouldn't have wrote that.
