Surprise Visit

Updated on September 18, 2015

Make It Fun

To often we forget

Those people who are out of sight

But never out of our mind

We all love to be healthy and strong

As we age we may not be able to do all the things we use to

It doesn't mean we are not the same person who we once knew

We just look different

Our bodies change

Safety has to be a priority

Our bones become brittle and can easily break

Injuries take longer to heal

There are many reasons why people go to nursing homes

They once came from big families

Now most often their relatives have passed on

The day that was always filled with children of every age

Is quiet and only the t .v. can be heard

Pictures flashing with a jumble of non stop words

Their favorite homemade meals that they use to spend all day to cook

Are replaced by a more cafeteria style food

Nothing close to what mother would make

Mashed or bland and vegetables from a can

Not to appetizing

When for years you ate nothing but the best

They lived the past fifty two years

In a wonderful place called home

Now they are left with a bed and a bureau in one room

A roommate around the clock

Unless you can take a walk

Nurses aides and orderlies in and out

People a lot worse than them

Some shouting stop or moaning in pain

Where is the excitement for life

Is it lost in the color of the plain walls

Left outside the little window with no air

It is time we put ourselves last

Try walking in and staying awhile

Knowing you can get up at anytime and leave

They are left alone

Sad in the heart

Sit and talk

You will be shocked and lost

When no matter what words you say

They don't change the facts

This is where their future lies

You would be glad to hear

How your visit made their day

Not for what you bought

But for what you did

You seen them for the lovely person that they are

Hidden behind the worn out shell

Maybe they didn't talk

Hanging on to your every word

You seen a smile

That no one has seen in years

Each person is different

With their own story to tell

Will you listen or will you walk?

Gypsy Rose Lee I love all stories because they have great potential. My biggest joy is to write. When I am not writing I am reading. Always searching for a good time. Thank you again.

I always find it interesting to listen to other peoples' stories. Just as long as they are interesting and nowt boring and long winded.
