Last chance for love ...........poetry

Updated on August 18, 2015

These eye's search outward and fleetingly over
the heads in the city crowd
the din of traffic loud and unsettling
the masses of ego loud

the question is constant the answer
evading and unforgiving
how can human touch be so distant from him
what is his reason for living

families pass a child cries as his mother
chastises in anger
was life always this way or
is humanity on the edge of danger

violence is the new constant heinous crime the
new way to connect
remember once that love of family
is it too late to protect

He fondles the railing his feet gain a slippery hold
as he looks down at the moving river
he tugs at his collar his face and neck flushed
he makes up his mind as his hands slightly shiver

no one notices as he jumps one more
missing person is never to be found
perhaps though the sea might care for that's
where his body is bound

Ed, this is masterful. Not what I wanted to read on my first cup of coffee before sunrise. But rather what I needed to read. I refuse to be a part of that which causes despair, at least for today.

Ed, I had a day where anger would have been the normal reaction. This poem helped to keep me from it. You danged poets are awesome!!

Hi Ed--this piece just speaks volumes to me--I wonder why we feel so disconnected from others, from ourselves--

Audrey , That is exactly why I wrote this , I feel that way constantly . perfectly normal people walking down life's streets feeling disconnected from all the crowd ! Strange and tragic that's for sure . What do we do ?
