Sustenance

Sustenance

Through the days that I have been

a being in my existence

inhaling and exhaling

all I've seen

I have breathed in what surrounds

voiced within my bounds

weighty from the ground

a shadow only

of what I stand to mean.

Something unseen

lifts me up, devouring ...

and brings me deeper in

that universal mouth unfolds

mountains, over hills ...

over plains, over water ...

over all I've ever pondered.

Shining statues of gold

shimmer forth, frothing ...

appears beneath, and

wreaks of chaos

through the quiet

in my still,

saddled, trampled, compiled existence ...

carried over the lips

of this ...

bruised persuader -

Through a parallel place I may be ...

within the moment

breathing life.

Life is me.

I've read several - well, most - of your poems so far published and see much merit in them, and in you, their creator.

I'm commenting on this one first, because it's the one I most relate to - or it most relates to me. It speaks from crystalline, authentic, honest subjectivity.

I happen to think that everything one perceives is one's own self/subjectivity interpreting and filtering whatever else is 'out there'. The one thing that seems to BE and to be relatively clear is life within oneself. So, of course, I love these lines:

      ". . . . bruised persuader -

Through a parallel place I may be ...

      within the moment

      breathing life.

      Life is me. . . . ."

I like that. I found you because you answered the question, “What Is The Most Important Phrase Ever Spoken By Man” and I liked your answer. Look forward to reading more.
