The Christmas Star

Updated on December 15, 2014
Source

By: Wayne Brown

It matters little whereabouts you are

When there in the east rises the star

To signal a time of celebration and mirth

Marking the hour of the Christ-Child’s birth

A wondrous birth amid the humble of poverty

The celebration of man’s new-born deity

A child born among us to teach and bear our sins

Grown to a man who promised to come once again

That special sense as the birth moment nears

Excites our peace and joy; calms our fears

Brings tranquility to a world of push and shove

The star rises in the heavens sending God’s love

There is a certain calm which falls over the land

The quiet directed by the power of God’s hand

It touches each soul and puts them in the spirit

And sets Angels to singing; if we could only hear it

The stories read to children of a manger birth

God’s only Son sent to be here on this earth

To walk among men of God and evil devise

Then for the sins of man offer his own sacrifice

Bow down your heads and kneel to pray

As we once again celebrate His birthday

Rejoice in knowing that He truly loves us all

And one day we too will hear the Master’s Call

Bless each and every soul in this joyous time

May the love of the Christ-Child upon you shine

May you hearts find peace and joy near and far

May Christ’s love shine down from the Christmas Star

@ComfortB....I suppose it is good to say that the fighting was subdued for the season in the region of Israel. The birth of Jesus is such a heartfelt thing and I think you made the point that it is good that it does not happen on the streets....at least not yet. Thanks so much for that special "thank you"....now I know three words in Hebrew (thank you and Shalom). ~WB

@Deborah Brooks....Thanks so much. Had a wonderful snowy Christmas here in north Texas with my only granddaughter and family on a visit which was much too short. Looking forward to the new year and retirement. ~WB

I must say, as weird as this may sound, that I did miss that "world of push and shove" as I spent Christmas this year in Israel, and it was unbelievably quiet and unlike the christmas I've grown to know.

There were no christmas songs on the radio waves, no christmas commercial on their TVs either. And except for a few christmas decorations here and there, the streets were deserted with most spending the days indoors. If I didn't know it before, I wouldn't know it was christmas day.

In a country where the whole christmas story was played out, the spirit of christmas was nowhere to be found.

But thank God, He is born in our hearts, not on our streets! And I enjoyed christmas regardless, just as I've enjoyed reading this poem.

      תודה (toe-dah) Wayne!

That's 'Thank You Wayne' in Hebrew.

Have a very blessed New Year. Shalom!

@fpherj48....To me, there is no greater compliment than having my own words quoted back to me via comment, Paula. I am glad that you found this one to your liking and inspiring...that means I did it right. Thanks much! ~WB

@Gypsy Rose Lee...So glad that you enjoy this one in this wonderful time of year. Thanks much for the great comment and the sharing. ~WB

@CMerritt...This one came to me rather quickly though I had no real plan other than to attempt a write in the Spirit of Christmas. It saddens me that so many are working so hard to bury that significance and refer to it as simply "The Holiday Season". These are the freedoms and liberties that people are slowly losing over time. So glad you liked it, Chris. Thanks much. ~WB

@rcrumple....Thank you, Rich. Christmas has become such a commercial venture that I often wonder if some of the kids of today know what it is really is for us. It troubles me greatly to see people attempt to do away with the true celebration or name it something besides what it really is. Merry Christmas to you and family! ~WB

Very nicely done, my friend. The birthday boy is smiling down with the knowledge not everybody forgets to keep "Christ" in Christmas. I wish the merriest of days to come your way. May this Christmas be safe and filled with love for you and your family!
