A Poem; The River of Life.

Updated on May 15, 2015

The River.

There's a river I know from so long ago and this river, well that's called life.

The journey begins for us all it's the same we float into pleasure and strife.

As time passes by, we all wonder why he said that she said that's a lie, it doesn't make sense

that's in the past tense, just how does a plane come to fly.

As we float along on this river so wide there's a war going on to one side, as I look to the other

there stands my brother on the beach with his smiling new bride.

On round the bend people starve at life's end from a conflict to which there's no answer,

there Gold glints in the light, nice clothes are just right, there's new cars there's laughter and banter.

As I float along comes to my mind a song that tells of love and hereafter, I wonder if love will stay as the dove, that we release to the freedom were after.

Onward we go to where we don't know, to what and to where is our question, as time passes by we smile then we sigh life and death is our only direction.

So as we float on our river of life and were glad that we've made it so far, we must try to improve whatever we find before reaching the sea and the stars.

You can the river below. Death of a Dolphin

The river is a good metaphor for life. We seem to hit fast and slow curents along the way. Sharing.

Hi Don. Thank you for your valued visit and comments. The formatting prevents the flow I intended unfortunately.

I know what you mean about the formatting etc, Graham - very frustrating sometimes! Great poem; it still flows and has good rhythm, bit like bobbing along on a boat. The analogy is so true and each scene that appears is just what happens in life with the good and the bad. Yes, improving what we find is essential. Up, useful and beautiful. Ann

You did great on the river of life. What would happen if we include a fall of life and a cyclone of life as well? Your words take us where you want us to be... at the very end of an open ocean of inspiration.

      Amazingly done Old albion!

You really have created an impression of a river in my mind. So many scenes to imagine here and to relate to -- but I especially related to this where you said there are people starving around the bend. It's so true how there is laughter and busy days for some and then starvation for others. It's so sad and some days, it's so bewildering, if we are reading the headlines of the news.

Great verbal images. Voting up and awesome.

There are times when we just have to go with the flow. I like to think of life as a journey, it can make you or it can break you. It twists and it turns, but who knows what lies around the next corner? A truly thought provoking poem, beautifully done.

So true, life is definitely more like a river than a box of cholocates! And you always get those crossroady areas where the river forks. Sometimes you get logs, sometimes you get fish, sometimes you almost down. Love the analogy and the poem! Voted awesome.
