My One and Only

Updated on June 24, 2014

As a 17 year old girl, the best way I knew how to express myself was through writing. Everyone has that special family member that they are just completely connected to... mine was my great-grandmother. She was my best friend and a wonderful picture of patience.

My One and Only

There's a lady in my life, Who's so special to me,

I can't live without here, She's my one and only.

That lady is you, You were here from the start,

There will always be a special place for you, You'll be in my heart.

Your love is unbelievable, Your heart is so true,

Always thinking of others, No one else compares to you.

You're one of a kind, There is no denying,

You can never be replaced, There's no need for trying.

What would I do without you, There would be no pleasure,

I would be so lost, Because you are my treasure.

You are my north, Without you I'd be lost,

I'd do anything to have you here, No matter what it cost.

Through all of life's cruelties, Like heartaches and heartbreaks,

We'll stick it out together, No matter what it takes.

Through happy, sad, and tough times, No matter what we do,

'Til the end of the world, I'll always love you.

Dedicated To:

Ethel Kenner Raymond on her 93rd birthday, July 16, 2000. I love you, Dear.

Beautiful poem! It could be about my grandmother. Of all my family members, she's the one who always encouraged my dreams and told me, "No matter what anyone else says, be yourself."

Grandparents truly are a blessing. And grandchildren are their blessing as well.

My grandmother was a special person to me. She died while I was in my teens, and I still miss her. Every time I see someone like her, I remember how much she meant to me and my heart is touched for a tender moment.

Such a beautiful poem. In the Philippines they say that grandparents are allowed to spoil the grandchildren. That's why, even if I knew it was bad for my baby to drink Coke, she was only allowed to drink it if it came from Grandma. When all the grandparents died my daughter, then 16, wept and wailed, "I have no grandparents." Grandparents are a special gift from God.And we are all lucky because if we're not grandparents yet, someday we will be:).
