Teens - The Difficult Years in Haiku

Updated on February 22, 2013

Girls just want to have fun!

Confident in pink or hiding behind black

a contradiction of style and self awareness

laughing, graceful, awkward, childlike,

you are almost a woman but not quite.

Ideas and questions, silence and moods

you never know what the day will bring

Sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down

changes come quickly from smile to a frown.

Your laughter fills our house, joy is your gift

when I listen I learn what you think.

So much to say to experience and learn

Creative and bold, shy and intrepid in turn.

Fourteen to sixteen - the difficult years

breakouts and break-ups, bff friends and then not

Experimenting you are claiming your place in the world

who will you become - beautiful girl?

You are correct Anjili, I remember how my mum would try to help and I was often not appreciative. My girls are fortunately a lot nicer and kinder than I was. Thanks for the vote

That is the most volatile stage in human life. Teens habitually do what you forbid. Parents sacrifice a lot of time and energy to straighten them. Nice hub. Voted up

This eloquently expresses the turbulent teen years - they certainly are roller coaster years.

You will and though you may not enjoy every single moment the times you do and spend together will be memories worth more than gold. Thanks for your kind comments and for reading.

Lovely. Your prose and pictures have captured that adolescent space and time beautifully. Those difficult years lay just before me with three pre-teen girls. Let's hope we all survive.

Well done. Having raised 4 kids, 2 boys and 2 girls, you hit the nail on the head.

      Enjoyed it.
