Thank You Notes Brief History

Why send a thank you note?. Thank you notes were being sent to friends, family and business associates as early as the early 1400's and said to be used even before that time. The practice of writing a thank you note and having it hand delivered was popular during this century. Sending personal cards was also considered an important social expression during this century. In 1856 a German immigrant Pouis Prang brought greeting cards and notes to America and they became a popular expression for holidays, birthdays and thank you notes. It was also commonplace for many people to purchase cards created by well known artists during earlier centuries. Send a personal thank you note today and reap the benefits. People save handwritten notes and often look at them later.

I love handwritten anything but I have to say I almost fainted when I received a handwritten thank you note from my favorite daughter-in-law about souveniers we sent. It was just so unexpected and delightful. Of course it's a keepsake now.

I like this one. Handwritten notes have really gone by the side as technology rises in popularity. I think written letters and thank-you notes need to make a comeback! I vote up as it's a good hub subject.

Is it my imagination or are people doing less of this than they used to do? I hope I'm wrong because I think thank you notes are very important...it's just common courtesy....so maybe yes, there is less of that since there seems to be less courtesy in this country nowadays. Anyway, I completely agree with you.

Hi Carol! I also believe that hand-written thank you notes are so important! I send them to all those people who support by charity aimed to raise money for area food banks. I think they prefer them this way. Take care, Kelley

TY writing is indeed a lost art. My Momma was a stickler and it is one of the greatest gifts she taught me. She taught me to appreciate people and their kindness while they are alive to appreciate you.

Excellent writing...Voted UP and UABI. Hugs, Maria
