"Thanks, but No Thanks" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on November 28, 2013

"Thanks, but No Thanks"

A blessed being runs in the night

Burning off excess

Bloated with shame

A big turkey with jive

Tired of being stuffed

Year after year after year

Tired of being sold

Lie after lie after lie

Pie after pie after pie

Other turkey's he runs by

In their nests gobbling up more goo

Filled up with red white and blue

Empty souls stuck in a rut

No movement; satisfied?

Feasting in the name of genocide

Fools giving thanks instead of sharing

Fools giving thanks instead of caring

To give in the first place, you have to possess it

Think for yourself, no machine to process it

To share denotes no property

Share and share alike, my philosophy

Owned idiots starved, but not starving

Saturated fat fucks, not giving one

Plenty to spare

Spoiled victors gloating and never asking why

America, the only country to give thanks

The tradition must die

Nice poem. It speaks on a turkey's point of view or perspective in a way. Voted up.

Good poem about our greedy society in general, and America's specifically. No thanksgiving for us here in the Land Downunder.

Well our president is trying to get it to die but I think it is a wonderful thing, he only gives to himself and his cronies billions even but the American people, real Americans, are very kind giving people that have helped millions around the world. All we have to do is hear of a need and even the ones with not much will give.

I do realize how many feel about us and we have celebrities and some that may look to represent us but they do not. Real Americans are very hard working people and right now going through some very bad times losing jobs and insurance and having our country taken over by war lords and religious undesirables and many do not even know what is going on but I am sure the whole world will share in the same calamities in the end but there will be few if any of us left who will be able to help.

Sorry, I just noticed you are from here. lol Well then I sort of understand your feelings.

Yeah I'm a good ol American.... I'm pro America, that's why I complain so much.... If you are interested in more of my crazy opinions check out my other poems, there is a running theme and you will either agree or disagree, but hopefully most of all understand my tone.

I was listening to "This American Life: Poultry Slam" a few days ago and they had a story about the same turkey you describe in your story. Awesome stuff.. Jamie
