That Perfect Day

Updated on February 5, 2015

War exploded the night before,

death was begging for more,

but the dawn on a battlefield

was a thing of breathtaking beauty,

the violence would yield,

sunlight filtered through

a large bank of clouds,

coloring the skies

in pastels of oranges and yellows,

which could easily dry your eyes,

mountains seemed to skim

along the edges of the cloud,

the air was fresh and thin,

snow-capped peaks reflected

the colorful rise of the sun,

you’ll want it no other way,

that perfect day,

would remain slim,

as war breaks out again,

humanity would fail,

and the beauty thins away,

and grows chill and pale.

Though not a soldier myself, I have see witnessed war in my backyard.

The poem made me see the trenches, and hear bullets and bombs.

...you're an artist with words Frank - our styles are very similar that way and I love the way you use words and paint cinematic pictures and always tell a narrative story - I am inspired by YOU.

You have painted a vivid visual image with your words, Frank. It brings to mind also the devastation of the fire from CO. War and its aftermath bring such havoc to our beautiful world. Great write once again!

      Hi Frank

"in pastels of oranges and yellows,

which could easily dry your eyes"

Beautiful imagery. The ugliness of war scars the beauty.

      Voted up and away.
