That Striving Gene

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Superfluous, incongruous,

my striving mind so obvious,

an ego-driven omnibus,

ploughing through the crowds.

And I a sacred pacifist,

with words I use not with my fist,

to acquire all that will enlists,

to gain a nourished soul.

But sometimes I in doubt remiss,

not question paths I choose regress,

to wonder why I do all this,

to bolster my human stance.

For in the end not fame assists,

just make me feel my life a tryst,

a meant to be, a life all blessed,

with purpose and respected thought.

All I want is to be read, embraced,

for perspective I entice, relate,

so thoughts can aspire and in change create,

a better life to live.

But striving for the shackles of gain,

can never depart from my intentioned aim,

to connect to hearts and in thoughts remain,

an ingredient of aspiration.

If I should die before my time,

with no regrets just unfinished lines,

my thoughts delayed but still sublime,

in an unrestricted soul set free.

The best I can hope for is to have no unfinished lines.
