On the way to a William Turner exhibition today, and I got to thinking about how we connect with art and what an artist can make us feel. Hope you enjoy my perceptions.

The Art of Appreciation

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

How beauteous the appreciation of art,

through intention, expression and understanding connections,

each aspect a mirror of humanity, a glimpse of a soul,

lost in the purity of creativity.

What thoughts emerge in the process, hidden,

like a puzzle to solve, emotions to be realised,

and each canvas, each form, a key to human potential,

and the beauty within a heart.

The essence of expression beyond any form of expertise,

is like the thin surface of paint that illusions the depth of life,

and within the polished results the striving and attempts at perfection,

that before the act begins is lucid within the mind.

Art is a passage to one of our greatest understandings,

one of our greatest potentials in life,

opening to the creative stream that is an expression of creation itself,

the very core of life within a soul.

Our appreciation opens up our hearts to a finer level of understanding,

emotions passed on through the artist and their perceptions,

of a world filled with miracles and the struggle of life,

and the light of truth in acceptance.

I appreciated your entire poem, but especially these words, "that before the act begins is lucid within the mind." This is the source of either the extreme sense of freedom for the artist or frustration, that in his mind is a lucid vision, and it is his task to show it to the rest of the world.

Very nice work. As a painter I can appreciate the picture you have created in words that so eloquently describe the thought process of a creator. Voting up and sharing!
