The Bare Text

Updated on December 29, 2012

Kill the "I"

Kill the "I", she'd say,

But Ma, "I"m in it...

she shakes her head...

I see her ghost

clear as glass,

shaking her head

"But "I" is my favorite person!

She snorts- It shows."

Very well Mother... I'll try.

How many roads end in sticky alder?

the juice staining young hands,

a thousand thousand in a child's heart;

or wrapping bluebells around the neck

like pagan wampum?

the delicious fear of the bear,

and the head up for remarkable scent?

or stomping violets and breathing

in the faint, pure smell of joy?

or laughing, careening down

to Cottonwood Creek?

there to farm minnows into

shallow sand pools studded

with minute shells of purple

and lavender fished out

for later booty,

or the sun, which fills

all of middle earth,

surely the hub of the universe

sits on the towheads-

bargaining with minnow catch

and wading out to the middle

of the stream, dunking their heads

to spy the trout,

the atlas is a graveyard

of dreams...

of sweet dreams...

but new dreams are

born every day,

each child dreaming

a separate dream,

of pure beauty.

How did I do Ma?

cigarette dangling,

she nods,

and says

"It'll do.

A wonderful flow not of memory but of felt experience that you shape so vividly in the NOW that it is here, we live it . With you. And your ol' lady (of course). Again, as Will is my witness --"Wow! you are so talented"

I'm sure for many there must be a 'rant space' - why it's even needed would probably vary also I believe... though ultimately, it must negatively affect and influence the power and tranquility of rational minds... Did we never learn anything from Jim Morrison?? :)

OMG Pearl... honey, you're making my eye twitch. I always thought Morrison... But, the good news is, free people can agree to disagree without denigrating freedom of speech, which you seem to think we can do without, not all is fluffy clouds and ice cream. But, if that's all you think we should portray, then I will gladly ask you to be the one to give all the rest of us double lobotomies, because that's what it's gonna take. I quit drinking. It's not easy. Please, do not wake the hibernating bear. I thank you ahead of time. Love yaz, lily

It'll do, alright! I love your poetic expressions. Wonderfully made. Thank you for this pleasure.

I hope all is well up there.

By the way, I had some friends move to Wasilla just two weeks ago.
