The Battle Has Just Begun: a Love Song

Updated on September 5, 2013
Source

Take me back in time

To a place where I still belonged in your arms

And everything else was all right

I watched the light

As it turned into dark

As a battle raged inside of you

And everything’s gone now

But I still remember

That hopeful gleam in your eye

As we watched the stars fall

And darkness surrendered

To a sunrise

I’m standing alone on the edge of the unknown

I wish you were still by my side

Explain to me how I lost you to this

When I thought everything would finally be all right

I’m drowning alone in a sea of your darkness

You don’t even seem to notice

But I won’t give up now

I love you too much

This isn’t over; the battle has just begun

I know that it hurts you

But it kills me to watch it

And know I am helpless to stop it

Your pain is my agony

I see you’ve been crying

And I know what is on your mind

It kills me to know that you dream of dying

When I’m still standing right here by your side

I’m standing alone on the edge of the unknown

I wish you were still by my side

Explain to me how I lost you to this

When I thought everything would finally be all right

I’m drowning alone in a sea of your darkness

You don’t even seem to notice

But I won’t give up now

I love you too much

This isn’t over; the battle has just begun

No matter what happens, I’ll never give up

You are the only one I’ll ever love

I won’t let the sadness take you away

Even when we both ache from the pain

You are everything that matters to me

Take your life, and I’ll be shattered by the grief

By wanting to die, you’re killing me too

I am alive, and you will be too

I’m standing alone on the edge of the unknown

I wish you were still by my side

Explain to me how I lost you to this

When I thought everything would finally be all right

I’m drowning alone in a sea of your darkness

You don’t even seem to notice

But I won’t give up now

I love you too much

This isn’t over; the battle has just begun
