The Beast in My Heart

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

He feeds my soul, touches my heart

with a profound connection,

one I cannot ignore, cannot refute,

and with his need for me and what I do for him,

he accepts wholly and gives me so much more,

as a loving and compassionate friend.

When we are parted he waits for my return,

when we are together he savours my attention,

and what few things I ask of him,

he surrenders to my will without hesitation,

selflessly adhering to my rules,

without resistance or contention.

His face is strong and his eyes filled with kindness,

he understands my every word, my every feeling,

soothing me when I am distressed,

calming me when I'm lost in indecision,

and loving me regardless.

I see past his exterior, his earthly shell,

and know in my heart he is part of me,

and I adore him, his every antic and idiosyncrasy,

often observing him lying next to me,

his features so familiar, so adorable,

and I can never not love him for who he is.

The Beast in my heart is a reflection of my soul,

my will to live this life and share it with him, complete,

and never shall I forsake him in life,

for his decision to love me is singular and profound,

selfless and endearing,

and to the end of time it shall remain so.

The ability to love is inherent and our pets are far more than just that; they are part of our family, and we love them no less. Beast is my special little furry child, who for the most part, is far better behaved than many human children I know. He is my loving and devoted companion for as long as both of us are on this earth, and perhaps on...

Thanks Martin; that's sensible. So many people get pets and then can't care for them as they need. My little guy is like my best mate.

I love animals so much that I don't own any. (Wasn't home enough.) Instead I helped my neighbors with theirs.

Much appreciated Vicki, and yes I might know that person too. So nice to have them in our lives. Take care.

Colin knows I don't 'do' FB, but nevertheless he does share with me. I really enjoyed reading this, Tony, and love your photos with your poem too. It reminded me a lot of someone else . . . Also with a couple of beautiful furry Beasts. So glad you have this special friend in your life.

Thanks Colin, knew it would get to you. We do love our little furry friends. Sausages and sauerkraut on a bun...yum! Had the best veal sausage and potato rosti in Amsterdam, it was magnificent. Do love Dutch/German food, I must say. Brian Eno- haven't heard that name in a while...cool. Tiffy at 18 deserves to be a diva, and poor Gabriel is deaf, sad; bet they're both absolutely beautiful. Enjoy your night. Adelaide time 6.30pm.

My dear friend and most esteemed colleague Sir Tony - I too suffer from depression (situational), anxiety and high blood pressure but at last check I am doing pretty well - although like for so many of us here on planet earth - one day at a time - and we all have to deal with 'it' (whatever that may be) on a daily basis.

Just arrived home with my routine of writing at work ( they don't pay me and I do it when they're not looking , lol) and then posting online when I get home with a beer and some Eric Dolphy and yes even Brian Eno and two sausages on a bun with sauerkraut (sic) no less, lol.

I must say I simply loved your new piece here - and was quite moved because my two best friends in the whole wide world are Little Miss Tiffy (who was my mum's cat and is now 18 and a certified diva) and Mister Gabriel who is my adopted cat and all white and completely deaf.

So yes your words went straight to this man's heart.

I will post and link your wonderous words from your heart to my FB page.
