The Betraying Friend

Updated on November 7, 2011
AudreyHowitt profile image

Audrey is a poet, classical singer and voice teacher, recovering attorney and licensed psychotherapist.

I leave you behind

You, my betraying friend

And as the loneliness

Wraps cloying fingers over

Heart and head

I retreat

To the pencil and the page

In search of absolution yet again

I think we all have betraying friends from time to time--it is always a shock when it happens though. Thank you so much for the read and comments. Greatly appreciated!

Terrific poem. Short and to the point. Don't give the betrayers any satisfaction. Feel the pain and move on... that seems to be what you did... or do. I hope there aren't any betrayers in your life, Audrey. They can do such damage. But, you have overcome.

      Love from Lola

Hi Audrey-It's great to see you on Hubpages. I know you from Redgage and twitter. Your poem is short and to the point which I agree, makes it more powerful and doesn't give the person too much power. Beautiful picture to go with your great poetry hub :-)

This is a great poem because you said your piece and didn't give the betrayed friend the satisfaction of a sorrowful lament. That creates power. Is that a photo of Judas? Great poem. Look forward to more!
