The Books of Francesca Lia Block

Francesca Lia Block is an author of her magical-realist young adult fiction, usually set in her home of Los Angeles. Her writing style is lyrical, lush, glamorous and romantic. She describes her books as "contemporary fairy tales with an edge." She often touches on themes of feminism and gay rights.

Block is best known for the Dangerous Angels series, starring Weetzie Bat and her family. This series includes Weetzie Bat, Witch Baby, Cherokee Bat and the Goat Guys, Missing Angel Juan, Baby Be-Bop, and Necklace of Kisses. There is a planned film production of Weetzie Bat, which Block is writing a screenplay for.

Block was born in Los Angeles on December 3, 1962. She is the child of two artists. She attended the University of California at Berkeley. She is the mother of two children. She has written many books and has received awards from the American Library Association, School Library Journal and the New York Times. She also teaches writing.
